Every attack of every combo now has a return to idle animation if you don't continue attacking. Nothing fancy, but just blending the instant snap does a lot. This connection was really missing before.

Trees starting to look promising. Shaders control sprite selection so outlines hug the forest edges like a drawn map. Cities use a similar approach but with radius controlling sprite step offset and scale.

As a solo developer, finding the right audio source is the hardest part when adding sounds.
Plenty of jump sounds out there, but I couldn’t find one that felt Mario-like.
So I tried making Mario’s jump sound myself.
