"(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party)" is from the Beastie Boys' debut album Licensed to Ill (1986), the first rap album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200. It was written in just 5 minutes (on a paper napkin) as a parody of the idiotic 80s fraternity party anthems (like "Smokin' in the Boys Room" or "I Wanna Rock").

Rick Rubin produced, put on heavy guitar and drums and turned what was a joke into a banger. It reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 (peak on March 7, 1987, the only top 10 of their career) and #11 on the UK Singles Chart. On the same day as the Hot 100 peak, the album reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
