So honored to join @POTUS at the 3rd generation Custer Farms in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin yesterday. We talked dairy, beef cattle, row crops, and the greatest of our Americans - our farmers. Under the boss’ leadership, we’re delivering real results for American farmers:

• 19 new trade deals that cut the ag trade deficit by 42% - billions of dollars back in our farmers pockets
• Corn exports up 35% (record breaking)
• Dairy exports surging
• Expanded Dairy Margin Coverage and saved family farms from the death tax

While there’s more work to do, we’re tackling input costs by rebuilding domestic fertilizer production and putting American agriculture back on top. At every turn, we are putting farmers, ranchers, and rural America back at the center of our policymaking and back at the center of our national conversation, right where they belong. An APHIS Strike Team is on-site, we have deployed mobile response trailers, and sterile fly releases are underway (2 million aerial + 4 million ground per week).

Movement control zones are in place, surveillance is intensified, and treatment supplies are available through @TAHC.

(3/4) Those actions bought the US nearly an additional year to prepare.  
  

That year allowed USDA, the Texas Animal Health Commission @TAHC, other state animal health officials, veterinarians, producers, and wildlife managers to build the response that is now being deployed in Texas.  
  

The detection in Texas is serious. That's why USDA and Texas immediately established a unified incident command, implemented quarantines and movement controls, accelerated sterile fly releases, expanded trapping and surveillance, and sent response personnel to the area.

(4/4) The threat didn't appear overnight. Neither did the response.  

The Trump Administration inherited a pest moving steadily north toward our border.

Since January 20, 2025, USDA has been executing the most aggressive New World Screwworm response in decades.   

And that work continues every day.

I just held a national call with almost a thousand participants on the first U.S. detection of New World Screwworm in a three-week-old calf in La Pryor, Texas — where I’ll be heading next week.

We are well prepared and are implementing our full Response Playbook with Texas officials as we speak:
• 20-km movement control zone
• Sterile fly releases underway (4 million/week ground + 4 million/week aerial)
• Enhanced border trapping & wildlife surveillance

This hasn’t caught us off guard. The Trump Administration has been preparing since Jan 21, 2025, strengthening border protections, pushing for containment in Mexico, and updating our NWS Response Playbook. We are well prepared and are now fully implementing this response alongside Texas officials right now.
