God wanted to test Abraham.
God's solution: tell him to kill his son.
Pharaoh oppressed Hebrews.
God's solution: kill his son.
David slept with Bathsheba.
God's solution: kill his son.
The world is a fucked up place.
God's solution: let's kill my son!"
Notice the pattern yet?
Throughout history, blind obedience has often been the catalyst for humanity's greatest atrocities. Religion institutionalizes, codifies, praises, and sanctifies blind obedience!
It's funny how when Trump was asked what his favorite Bible verse is, he declined to answer and said that it's "very personal". I agree, but every aspect of your religion should be PERSONAL and kept out of government, politics, and schools.
I don't respect women who advocate for religion-based head-coverings. You can say "My husband isn't making me wear this", but at the end of the day, it was still a man who decided that a woman's hair needs to be covered in order to help him suppress an erection.
Christians say that Christianity ended slavery, yet Christians participated in the slave trade for centuries. So, either The Bible condemns slavery and they misinterpreted it for centuries, or they consciously ignored those condemnations. Neither scenario makes them look good.
Religious people say that giving glory to God for their achievements is evidence of their humility. In reality, God is just another scapegoat like the devil. If you fail to succeed in the future, you can say "God had other plans".
@views09_ Even in the developed world, 76 years is a long life. Also, 76 years is longer than the life expectancy in Ghana, despite the fact that the majority of the population is Christian like you.
You pray for a job, you don't get it, then you say God has something better in store for you. Why did he waste your time and energy, though? Why not just give you what you prayed for at the outset? It's almost like you're just making shit up.
@ProfKelsey I love the book so far. I do agree that dismissing god with absolute certainty is hubristic, but it's still not as bad as being so certain of a god that you’re willing to teach children that they'll burn for eternity if they don't believe.
@melissavitelli@DonaldJTrumpJr@elonmusk It's interesting to see people willingly and proudly tokenize themselves. It's like if I said, "Hey, I'm not particularly interesting or smart, but if you need a black guy, I'm your guy!". 😆
Conservatives: Transgender women just want to trick and deceive men!
Also conservatives: I'm tired of transgender people being openly transgender! They're pushing an agenda!
@LauraLoomer@KamalaHarris This is deliciously ironic. If I even suggest that a blond, pale skinned man like Michael Rappaport is not Middle Eastern, I'll get labeled antisemitic. 😆
"How did humans survive for hundreds of thousands of years without your religion?" is a much more valid question than "Where do you get your morals from, if you don't believe in God?".
@simplybrj@smoke_nd_pearlz@zoraslovechild You don't get to pick the bear either. If it's a polar bear or Grizzly bear, good luck. Timothy Treadwell was fully conscious as he was snacked on. I don't think he cared whether the bear was evil as he moaned in agony.
@JohnBeaudoinSr@JaniceDean@KristiNoem I'm glad someone said what needed to be said. I can't believe Democrats and Republicans are coming together over something that should be a non-issue.
