Mr. Belding: The Suit That Told Him He Wasn't Finished Yet

When Good Morning, Miss Bliss was canceled, Dennis Haskins had every reason to think his run as Principal Richard Belding was over.

He'd gone through seven auditions just to get the job. Then producer Peter Engel told the cast that Disney had decided not to continue the series.

But Haskins started hearing strange little clues.

First, a prop guy approached him and said they'd been told to save the sets.

Then someone from wardrobe came over with an even bigger clue:

They'd been told to save his suits.

That was how Haskins learned Mr. Belding wasn't finished.

NBC had acquired the rights to four characters from the original show, and Mr. Belding was one of them. The concept was reworked into Saved by the Bell, where Haskins became the principal generations of viewers would remember from Bayside High.

Dennis Haskins died yesterday at 75.

RIP to one of Saturday morning TV's most loved principals. ❤️

By the 1980s, communities were swapping metal for big wooden playgrounds, interconnected forts and mini-castles built for climbing and imaginative play.

In 1986, Mister Rogers visited a newly built one in Ithaca, New York, designed with input from kids and adults.

Most of those wooden playgrounds didn’t last. Splinters, rot, maintenance costs, falls and updated safety standards led towns to replace them in the 1990s and early 2000s with plastic and coated-metal equipment.

For a generation of kids, they were more than playgrounds; they were places where ordinary afternoons became little adventures… Oh, just watch out for those pesky bees and wasps 🐝

You know, from what I saw so far of the original vs. the reboot, it seems the reboot's version's scientific knowledge, and love of it, looked more natural, as if you couldn't see that he was just acting like a scientist.
