Thanks to fab volunteers from @savebutterflies and @SedgemoorCV for a hard day's work, pulling up hawthorn saplings from our Stoke Camp reserve. Great to see Dingy and Grizzled Skippers, and Green-winged orchids, at this stunning limestone site.
Whilst doing water vole surveys @NESouthWest Shapwick Heath NNR we came across 2 raft spiders (Dolomedes fimbriatus) at different life stages. @AvalonMarshes
Been spreading the love by helping out in another area of Somerset. With no volunteer groups out, managers have needed help with finishing the winter work programme. Today clearing lines ready for a coppice coupe deer fence at @SomersetWT Great Breach wood.
The Somerset NNR team were proud to present their findings on the re-discovery of the Large Marsh Grasshopper on the Somerset Levels to the Royal Entomological Society today. Virtually of course! #somersetnnrs#somersetlevelsandmoors#betterwithnature
Grasslands have an amazing ability to store carbon but if they’re disturbed, they can release this into the atmosphere. By restoring grasslands, we can lock up carbon, support wildlife & help to tackle the climate crisis 👉 https://t.co/M0x9F0JmkC @SWTSimonC @MendipHillsAONB
Thanks to funding from @nationalgriduk Community Grant Programme, we bought a chipper for our Power to Grow project on @AvalonMarshes! This makes disposing of cleared scrub easier & chippings can be used to cover muddy footpaths & as habitat piles for grass snakes! @Grid_Media
