Athens, Greece | Prosfygika residents end hunger strike after 140 days

They had spent the day outside the hospital, listening to the debate unfolding inside the Athens Municipal Council and waiting for the result.

When the vote ended, residents of Prosfygika gathered for an open assembly. Everyone spoke.

The discussion turned around one question: whether this moment answered the core demands that had carried the hunger strike for months.

The municipal decision was read as a step won through struggle — enough to close one chapter, not the struggle itself.

A small group, together with Souzan, went upstairs to speak with Aristo and carry the discussion into the room.

Aristo was on day 140 of his hunger strike. Souzan was on day 55.

After the conversation, the decision was taken collectively: the hunger strike would end.

Later, in Syntagma Square, the decision was announced publicly.

The hunger strike ended. The struggle, residents said, continues.
