This week I got to participate in a Striped newt release, which was part of the Striped Newt Repatriation Project run by the Coastal Plains Institute!

Day 18 - now you can see darker matter inside and this one actually ate a microworm in the petri dish right in front of me while I was looking under the microscope!

In other news, we also have larvae! In fact, as of today, we have 40 larvae! As a reminder, these will be released into the Apalachicola National Forest as part of the Striped Newt Repatriation Project. I took this pic under a microscope within 6 hours of hatching.

Day 12 - note the reduction in the yolk sac. I'm 99% sure I saw this one eat a microworm this day.

And by Day 18 you could actually see pigment under a microscope (the egg was found loose from the plant, so I took pics. I did not disturb any on purpose!)

I haven't been on here in a while, but I have lots of updates. For starters, we certainly have Striped newt eggs. Here's a series of pics of development in some laid 1/6/22

By 1/17/22 they developed enough to look a bit like the Pokemon "Mew" - to be incredibly scientific and professional haha
