During a hearing in the U.S. Congress today, Secretary of State Marco Rubio was asked whether he was aware that Greenland is part of Denmark. His response was: “For now.”

It is worth recalling a few basic facts.

Greenland’s future is for the Greenlandic people to decide, in accordance with the 2009 Self-Government Act, which recognizes the Greenlandic people’s right to self-determination. That decision will not be made in Washington, but in Greenland.

Until the Greenlandic people decide otherwise, Greenland remains part of the Kingdom of Denmark. This status is recognized under international law, where respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity is among the most fundamental principles of the international order.

Greenland is also part of NATO through the Kingdom of Denmark. The United States has maintained a significant military presence in Greenland for decades and at one point operated up to 17 military bases and installations across Greenland. Under the 1951 Defense Agreement between Denmark and the United States, later updated through the 2004 Igaliku Agreement, signed in Igaliku, Greenland, by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, Denmark and Greenland, the United States already has the ability to establish or reopen military facilities in Greenland in cooperation with Denmark and Greenland.

There is therefore no security rationale that justifies discussions about American ownership of Greenland.

The idea of purchasing territories or acquiring parts of sovereign countries belongs to another era. That is not how modern allies conduct themselves in the 21st century.

If members of the U.S. administration believe that such statements enjoy broad support among the Greenlandic people, they are gravely mistaken. Political signals from Greenland have repeatedly shown that Greenlanders expect their right to determine their own future to be respected.

Neither Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, nor any future American president should decide Greenland’s future.

That right belongs exclusively to the Greenlandic people, in accordance with the Self-Government Act and the international principle of self-determination.

Greenland’s future belongs to the people of Greenland. Not Washington. Not any other capital. The decision belongs to the Greenlandic people — and to them alone. Period.

🇸🇪⚡ Swedish proposal could ruin Russian summer
Migration Minister Johan Forssell (M) is now coming out with a Swedish initiative that could hit Russian tourists hard in the EU.

Last year, 477,878 Schengen visas were issued to Russian citizens.

Forssell: “It is completely unreasonable that Russian citizens are enjoying luxury holidays while Ukrainians are dying.”

Sweden wants EU countries to be able to deny visas based on nationality — something that is currently not allowed.

The proposal has the support of all Nordic countries, the Baltics, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Poland.

Why Sweden is pushing this:
– stop Russian luxury tourism
– reduce security threats and espionage
– close loopholes used by the Kremlin
– make a political mark during ongoing wars

Forssell: “We must put an end to Russian weekend trips around the Mediterranean.”

What is happening now:
The proposal is at the EU migration ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg.
If it goes through, Russian travel to the EU could be severely restricted — perhaps as early as this summer, depending on processing times.

In short:
Sweden wants to close the door to Russian tourism.
The question is whether the EU dares to take the step.

BREAKING: THE WORLD TURNS ON THE TRUMPS! Over 100,000 Albanians flood the streets to STOP crooked @jaredkushner from turning their protected wetlands into a luxury resort for billionaires.

While Trump dismantles America's ocean monitoring systems and guts environmental protections at home, his son-in-law Jared Kushner is bulldozing protected wetlands in Albania to build a $4 billion luxury resort — and thousands of Albanians are in the streets trying to stop him.

The project, linked to Kushner's firm Affinity Partners, would cover 2.5 square kilometers of the protected Vjosa-Narta coastal landscape — home to flamingos, Mediterranean monk seals, and sea turtle nesting sites. The planned development includes roughly 10,000 hotel rooms and villas on protected Adriatic coastland that Albanian law was specifically designed to preserve.

In early May, excavators began clearing pine forests and dunes. Barbed-wire fences went up, cutting off locals and tourists from beaches they've used for generations. Then a video went viral showing private security guards dragging a peaceful protester along a cliff by force.

That was the spark. Thousands flooded the streets of Tirana for two consecutive days, chanting "Albania belongs to Albanians" and demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who has been facilitating the project through legislative changes to protected area laws passed in 2024 — changes that Albania's own anti-corruption prosecutors are now investigating.

SPAK, Albania's special anti-corruption prosecution office, has opened a formal probe into how Vjosa-Narta's protected status was quietly altered to make Kushner's resort possible. Two private security companies had their licenses revoked after the assault on protesters. Fifteen demonstrators have been charged. The local police chief was stripped of his duties.

This is the same Jared Kushner who received a $2 billion investment from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund shortly after leaving the White House following Trump's first term. The same Kushner who has been leveraging Trump family connections into overseas deals across the Middle East and Europe,while his father-in-law runs American foreign policy.

Flamingos and monk seals don't have lobbyists. Protected coastlines don't make campaign contributions. But Kushner has a very famous father-in-law — and Albania's government apparently made the calculation that that was enough incentive to destroy their own country’s environment.

Now, Albanian citizens are saying otherwise. Loudly.

BREAKING: HOLY SH*T! Trump's Pentagon hires a convicted Jan. 6th insurrectionist to work in a top position with access to highly classified military information.

And it gets so much worse...

According to bombshell reporting from The Washington Post, Elias Irizarry has been given a powerful job inside the Defense Department’s Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict office.

Irizarry took part in the deadly Capitol riot when he was 19 years old and rather than reassess his life after he was convicted for his crimes, he chose to double down on MAGA fascism. He ran unsuccessfully for a South Carolina state House seat as a Republican and now he's bringing his noxious politics to the halls of the Pentagon.

And Irizarry was not a minor insurrectionist. He was part of the hardcore band of Trumpers who entered into the actual Capitol building through a broken window. He was wielding a metal pole as a weapon, but didn't strike anyone that we know of.

When the FBI searched his phone, they discovered “a gap of data between January 1, 2021 and January 8, 2021, which suggests that Irizarry deleted information from his cell phone pertaining to his involvement on January 6, 2021." He was sentenced to two weeks in jail and was eventually pardoned by Trump.

The Post reports that DoD staff have "raised alarm" about Irizarry's appointment and "question how anyone convicted in the assault on American democracy could be trusted for such a sensitive role in the U.S. government." They were forced to voice these concerns anonymously, because the administration has a reputation for vindictive retribution against anyone who speaks out against regime decisions.

Irizarry will be working inside the office's irregular warfare and counterterrorism section despite having zero experience for the role. His only "qualification" is that he's a MAGA loyalist who sought to destroy our sacred tradition of a peaceful transfer of power. For the Trump administration, that's good enough.

The section that he'll be working in deals with embassy security and hostage rescue among other duties. According to two people familiar with the work speaking to the Post, it's some of the "most delicate that the Pentagon perform." When a crisis strikes, he will be totally unprepared.

“In the case of rescue/extraction missions, it can place our special operators in some of the most complex and dangerous environments we ask of them,” said one source. “To put someone so junior and new to DOD, and with such a checkered background, into such a sensitive portfolio raises serious questions for leadership.”

This hiring represents a convergence between two destructive Trumpian trends: hiring utter incompetents and politicizing nonpartisan institutions. This administration routinely hires people who are completely incapable of doing their jobs because they only care about MAGA loyalty. The result is a weakened, ideologically poisoned government.

When Democrat retake power, we must sweep every last one of these cretins out of our bureaucracies.
