👋 Hello! I’m a #BSL newbie just started my learning journey into British Sign Language and #DeafCulture.
My goal? To learn, share, and help foster greater understanding and inclusion.
Trying to build bridges between the hearing and D/deaf worlds. 🫂
#InclusionMatters

Each "communication failure" described in the report corresponds to a pressing need for professional BSL sign language translation. Healthcare, relying on lip reading or non-professional translations by family members, is far from sufficient and fraught with risks. #DeafCommunity
The British Deaf Association (BDA) has responded warmly to today’s publication of the “Locked Out: Exclusion of Deaf and Deafblind British Sign Language Users from Health and Social Care in the UK.” report from the Government’s BSL Advisory Board.

True inclusiveness is not merely 'allowing access', it is 'actively designing' to enable everyone to participate equally.

Vincent accurately pointed out a major blind spot in the fitness industry: the excessive reliance on auditory cues. "Timing based on music or verbal prompts" is a typical example of the 'universal design' principle being overlooked. #Inclusion#Accessibility#BSL

BSL interpreters are not an “extra”.
They are essential for safety, equality, and dignity. The right to communicate is a #HumanRights
Let’s move from awareness to action. The change starts with us. ☀️

💭This is a simple, effective start. But, how to make it known and used by more people? How to provide more precise assistance?
What ideas do you have?💡

After this incident, "The trust also lanyards have been introduced which patients can wear to indicate they may need additional communication support."

The most shocking line in this: a hospital staff member asked, "What is a BSL interpreter?" This is a systemic failure of the most basic duty of care. 🤯
How can we call a service "universal" when it fails to communicate with its patients?

🎶Beyond hospitals, BSL interpreters are key to inclusion. They ensure that deaf people can participate fully in public. This is what real accessibility looks like 👇

A BSL interpreter is not merely about converting spoken English into British Sign Language for deaf people, it is also about conveying tone, emotions, and cultural background. #BSL#InclusionMatters#DeafCommunity

🔍“What is a BSL interpreter?”
In simple terms, #BritishSignLanguage interpreters help deaf people and hearing people communicate with one another.
In Great Britain, this is between British Sign Language and spoken English.
