@VoiceOfThePhan The men make more money to reach the round of 16 than the women make to win the World Cup. The total payout for men’s world cups is about 10x more than the women’s. Most of that is TV viewership generated. The men split the money they generate with the women
Reflecting on the result last night and caught myself thinking about something #USMNT assistant Jesus Perez told me last fall.
Saw a few 10-level days this summer, and then a big ole two against Belgium. In the end, it was true: exposed. One bad day and you're out.
@CoachGavM Outside of pay to play, I think parents are one of the biggest barriers to youth soccer taking strides in the US. If we had more passionate and knowledgeable parents, we would have better grassroots coaching, more emphasis on practicing skills at home, etc
People will think I'm crazy for this take, but I'm a big believer in the psychological impact of narratives on teams. Yes, Belgium looked so much better tonight and we looked lost. But this team had a boatload of good vibes behind them, and in the last 48 hours that vanished, and replacing it was a story of implicit political corruption that turned them into the bad guys, or at least the beneficiary of the corruption. You can't tell me that doesn't put pressure on the team, change the vibe, and take a psychological toll that impacted what happened on the field. American fans, serious and casual, should be pissed at this interference. We overturned a red card and our reward was losing what made this team so much fun until now.
“And every four years when the World Cup comes around, we will say that we’d dominate if we had a stronger youth program.”
“And will we develop a stronger youth program?”
“We will not.”
all of these things can be simultaneously true:
- the red card handed to balogun was a horrible call & the process was wrong
- the lifted suspension of the red card was a bad process and handled wrong
- the reaction from belgium is over the top and embarrassing lol

American workers' share of the nation's income is at its lowest point in almost 80 years, as more of the economy's gains flow to corporations and investors. https://t.co/jNkAZL3olw
@scuffedpod@Cschmiedsoccer For a guy with a decently large frame he is horrible at leveraging his body to keep the ball. So many of those through balls he just totally lets the defender get body position on him without even trying to get his body in the way
@CouchNish This is like saying I can make a free throw and an uncontested lay up after five tries so being a professional basketball player must not be that hard
The Reflecting Pool is a perfect metaphor for the Trump administration:
- Ignore experts and science
- Overspend
- Declare early, historic victory
- "THE LEFT HATE THIS"
- Ends in total failure
- Unfounded conspiracies about sabotage
- MAGA pretends it doesn't actually matter
