FATHER'S DAY: This is a photo of my father. Unfortunately, I really didn't know him. You see, he walked out on me and my mom when I was seven years old. No goodbye, just gone. No child support payments, nothing. Our family of three became a family of two; me and my mom. I have forgiven Max; he was haunted by many demons, including alcohol addiction. I hold no grudge. And, I am so thankful for the many wonderful folks on the Spann side of my family that supported the two of us during the hard times. They weren't like Max. I choose to look back at one positive. After his sudden departure, I had to go to work. I learned how to work hard at a very young age, and that work ethic has carried me through my life. I am not really good at anything, but I will work harder than you, or anybody else to accomplish a task. For that, Max, I thank you. I see so many "feel good" Father's Day photos today on Facebook. Just remember for some of us it isn't a particularly "feel good" day due to events in our childhood. For the fatherless children of the world, I understand and feel what you feel. Let it motivate you to stay away from the same path. And, understand you have a Heavenly Father that will never leave you. That fact alone has carried me through life.
