Veteran Limpopo runner Johannes Mosehla has once again etched his name into the history books after becoming the oldest athlete ever to complete the Comrades Marathon, breaking his own record at the age of 84.
The Sekhukhune-born athlete successfully finished the 2026 Comrades Marathon, the grueling 85.77km down run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in an impressive time of 11 hours and 12 minutes, comfortably beating the official cut-off time.
Mosehla, who represents the Polokwane Athletics Club, entered this year's race aiming to surpass yet another milestone after setting the record in previous editions of the world's oldest and largest ultramarathon.
In 2023, he became the oldest Comrades Marathon finisher, eclipsing the long-standing record set by legendary runner Wally Hayward, who completed the race at the age of 80 in 1989. Mosehla then extended his record by finishing the race at 82 in 2024 and again at 83 in 2025, when he completed the 89.98km route from Pietermaritzburg to Durban in 11:47:27.
Now, at 84, Mosehla has once again raised the bar, proving that age is no barrier to determination, endurance and excellence.
He was among the 864 athletes representing Limpopo in this year's Comrades Marathon and continues to inspire runners across South Africa with every stride.
His latest achievement further cements his legacy as one of the most remarkable participants in Comrades Marathon history.
