You are a Data Analyst
You are not doing UI/UX
The insight you can generate from the data is more important than your fine dashboard.
A dashboard is just a means of communicating those insights to stakeholders.
Got a Slack message at 4:47PM on a Friday: "Hey, can you pull together a full breakdown of Q1 performance across all regions by Monday morning?" 😶
The audacity.
He even added, "Shouldn't take long"
In Nigeria, we have some of the most interesting consumer behaviour data in the world.
Fintech alone tells a story about how 200 million people think about money that no survey could capture.
We are sitting on gold and barely scratching the surface.
Businesses have one of two data problems.
Some don't collect or store data properly, and they're flying completely blind.
The rest have data sitting everywhere, and have no idea what questions to ask of it.
Both are expensive problems. Just in different ways.
Data scientist job descriptions are like:
PhD. in Astrophysics
10+ years of TensorFlow experience
Expert in quantum computing
Must have invented the internet
Entry-level role. $50k/yr.
These recruiters should fear God!!!
The data space is actually wider than you think. Regulations, roles, usage of insights, etc.
When you're actively working on projects and generating insights (probably for a big player in any industry) with real-life implications or usage of your insight that you would realise.
When I see some tables, i just start wondering about the lazy data engineer/ DBA person who built it
Why do you create a table with different date formats for different columns🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
You're just increasing the time used for data cleaning.
