The Yemoja Ibadan Festival is a time honored tradition that has been celebrated for generations, dating back to the earliest days of the Yorùbá people. This festival is a beautiful expression of devotion to Yemoja, the revered Òrìṣà of the river(Odò).

This festival is dedicated to honoring Yemoja, the Òrìṣà who embodies the very essence of motherhood. This festival pays tribute to her immense protection, support, nurturing spirit and powerful presence which has shaped and protected the Yorùbá people and her devotees for generations.

This festival takes annually in October and it always lasts 17-day-long since time immemorial. It brings together communities to come together to express their gratitude and reverence for Yemoja, recognizing the profound role she plays in their lives as a symbol of fertility and abundance.

At the heart of the celebration lies the recognition of Yemoja as the ultimate representation of motherhood. Inside the temple resides Ogunleki, a more than 400-year-old statue of Yemoja depicting a woman breastfeeding a baby and has many babies on her, serves as a powerful reminder of her enduring legacy, reminding us of the incredible strength, love and sacrifice that define the role of mothers in our world.

The Yemoja Ìbàdàn Festival is a heartfelt celebration of the Òrìṣà who embodies the spirit of motherhood, uniting communities and honoring the sacred bond between mothers and their children.
