State Athlete of the Week, presented by Watco:
KC Washington’s (5A, 5-0) Savion Stone delivered one of the most impressive performances in the state this season. The senior quarterback accounted for nine total touchdowns in an 82-44 win over Atchison. Stone went 10-of-12 passing for 206 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while adding 13 carries for 273 rushing yards and five more scores on the ground — finishing just shy of 500 total yards. He now has 30 total touchdowns on the season and is averaging 411 yards per game. KC Washington improves to 5-0 under head coach Camron Smith and will host KC Wyandotte this week. #sportsinkansas

Piper (4A, 1-0) junior Roman Byers Jr. delivered on both sides of the ball in the Pirates’ 31-22 win over Seaman. Byers finished with 33 carries for 241 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns, while also recording 10 tackles and 3 pass breakups at outside linebacker. Sophomore Leeum Healy had a big game with 2 TD passes and 150 yards. Piper improves to 1-0 under HC Cole Orrick and will have a big matchup at Basehor-Linwood this week. #sportsinkansas
