For the next presidential election, I want a written essay section. The way it works is the host will ask a nuanced question of all candidates and break for commercial to provide time to write answers. They may choose any person other than themselves to read their answer.

@MediChronicals @InfinityWard This is the point. Now, fights are more tactical, map awareness and placement are more important than mechanical skill and breaking cameras, and corner campers still get wrecked. All wins.

House Republicans stopped revising their legislative calendar back in July. So I updated it for them. Since July 4, the House has conducted 20 days of business in 16 weeks. Oct. 27-30 remains TBD.

Narcissistic leaders are more appealing to young people with low self-esteem.

When we’re insecure, we often gravitate to big egos to fill the void. Supporting them makes us feel special—and makes them feel less threatened.

It's time to stop mistaking confidence for competence.

Artificial intelligence technology is more capable than ever to create realistic images and video that may be deceiving, and scammers are using it to market fake products online. PBS News’ Casey Kuhn spoke with experts about how to avoid being scammed by AI this holiday season. PBS News reached out to the sellers referenced in this piece, but have not heard back from them at the time of publishing.

POP QUIZ:
What was Kamala’s campaign slogan?

If you don’t know, this is a big reason she lost.

Winning campaigns have a single central message. Think Obama’s “Yes We Can” or Reagan’s “Morning in America” (and, of course, “Let’s Make America Great Again”).

Kamala’s campaign slogan was “A New Way Forward.” (Maybe? I had to google it but even then there were conflicting answers.)

How many people could’ve answered that without googling? And what does it mean to call for a new way forward when you’ve been in office for four years and are still in the White House today? Why did she say she wouldn’t have done anything differently?

The campaign had no central message. Her messaging felt frenetic, lurching from trend to trend, meme to meme, with her tone (and accent?) shifting based on the audience. It was all side quests without a main quest.

She’s brat, now she’s serious, now joyful, now fired up, now maybe Jamaican. But in the age of the internet, messaging doesn’t stay in silos — people see all of it, and inconsistencies stand out.

It’s easier to win when you have diehards (true for founders and candidates alike) — and to have diehards, you need to be clear and consistent about what you are. The central message is your rallying cry.

I like Kamala the person! But I don’t really know who Kamala the candidate was. As a voter it was frustrating. She was more clearly defined by what she wasn’t. As a new candidate her main positioning was “not Biden,” followed by “not Trump.”

Meanwhile, for better or worse, Trump was always Trump, not the null condition for someone else. His personality never changed and his messaging all centered on the US having more money and less illegal immigration. Every ounce of energy was concentrated on the simple idea of “MAGA.” You could hate it, but you weren’t confused about what it was.

And a consistent candidate wins consistent supporters. How many Kamala diehards can you name? They seemed to come and go. On the other hand, thinking of Trump diehards is easy: it’s been a lot of the same people, for a long time. You could hate them too, but they weren’t going anywhere.

To build a big snowball, you can’t just gather up loose armfuls of snow and mash them together. You have to start with a single tightly packed snowball and roll from there.

Building a big movement is the same way — it requires a strong core. For a campaign, the central message is that core.

i don't pretend to understand the mind of the average voter, but the economy is in shambles and Biden and crew keep saying everything is great! the stock market is up! real people are earning less and working more. Trump won't make it better, but his lies convinced enough people.

MO Amendment 2: It's generally weird to make the argument that we need to legalize sports betting for a theoretical $100m to go towards education when Missouri has an $8 billion dollar surplus and won't give teachers the wages they deserve.
