Chess distribution in schools have started as we are preparing the School Chess Competition for SDGs.
Loyal to our mission to forge tomorrow's leaders, entrepreneurs and change agents from schools, we place chess, this mental sport, at the heart of all our interventions to work on the mental health of all citizens as we navigate through a world faced with urgent challenges on the one hand and to reveal Benin chess champions to the world.
Just like in chess, the urgency of accelerating the SDGs over the last 5 years (2026-2030) requires that each player (each human being including children) understands their role and makes calculated decisions.
Everyone - the private sector, government, schools, academia, the media, civil society organizations and citizens of all ages - has a crucial role to play. Each piece is vital in this game, and we must all contribute to the collective effort.
Together, through strategic actions and collaboration, we can win this crucial game, just like in chess, where each piece works in harmony to ensure victory.
Games are therefore the best way to involve children and talk to them about the SDGs, the future world they want. Chess has considerable benefits for our children. Among other things, it develops motivation, concentration, memory, and spatial vision. In addition, it puts children in a situation where they have to solve problems by allowing them to work on their strategies. Finally, the game of chess at school, through its playful aspect, allows children to learn skills without even realizing it. It is a very good tool to combat educational inequalities.
Learning chess at school aims to raise awareness among a large number of teachers of the benefits that this game brings to students, by mobilizing logic, strategy, rigor and the ability to abstract. Chess also helps to facilitate the learning of citizenship through respect for the rules and for others.
The skills acquired through chess are widely transferable to other areas if the teaching is designed in this way.
What our children learn through chess, they will be able to use it for example at school to improve their results at school, have good mental health and become good engaged citizens.
Trinity Montessori Schools and Lycée Toffa 1er (high school for girls only) received their chess sets this week.
The project is run in close partnership with @BeninBee as part of our Sport & Youth AgendaART to SPEED 2030.

@EmmanuelGanse C’est tout simplement le meilleur en terme de productivité, rapidité. Et quand tu y ajoute un Mac, c’est la totale. L’alchimie entre les 2 est phénoménal. Il faut vraiment tester pour comprendre.
