Finally, the submissions argued that the state’s commitments & the omission of positive obligations under the #UNFCCC & its instruments should guide the advisory opinion. @AGNChairUNFCCC@_AfricanUnion

Africa’s core message: Thread-
1. Anchor the advisory opinion in climate treaties, the #UNFCCC & its #Kyoto & #Paris as primary legal frameworks, and not limit it to the Law of the Sea.

As Kenya takes over the role of the chair of the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), I extend my thanks to all our partners who have continuously supported Africa’s renewed development agenda articulated in the Nairobi Declaration, a shift from victim to climate leadership. Our goal is to drive economic transformation in harmony with our climatic realities.
A lot of work lies ahead as we prepare for #COP29 in Baku. I am fully committed to working collaboratively and inclusively to shape Africa’s negotiation stances using African-led data, insights, and ideas to ensure robust representation and participation of Africa at COP29.
Our approach must recognize Africa’s vast potential: a growing workforce, ample land and natural resources, and immense opportunities for renewable energy generation to achieve energy security and green industrialization. This unique combination positions us to accelerate global decarbonization and lead the race to net zero and beyond.
Each of us has a critical role to play! Achieving climate-positive growth demands an integrated approach. Let’s collaborate, learn from each other, and get to work.
Get in touch to discuss how we can advance Africa’s climate leadership.

After long deliberations in Istanbul, the IPCC decided the key elements of its work programme until 2030: 3 volumes and a Synthesis Report (as during previous cycles), a Special Report on Cities and Climate Change, two methodological reports on Short-lived Climate Forcers and on Carbon Dioxide Removal, Utilisation and Storage Technologies, and an update to the 1994 #IPCC Technical Guidelines on impacts and adaptation, including adaptation indicators, metrics, and methodologies. Credit to #COP28 President Al Jaber for the masterstroke of getting the Loss & Damage Fund agreed on the first day of COP28. That was a game changing move. Had it been left until the end, rich countries would have used it as bargaining chip. This cleared the runway for the first global stocktake.
@COP28_UAE The decision provides the technical work carried out by the SBs, informed by dialogues and decisions to be taken annually at COPs to operationalise just transition pathways under # PA. @AGNChairUNFCCC@friphiri
Updates: @COP28UAE Just transition pathways to achieving the goals of the # PA in the context of equity. This is critical as we move forward to achieving net zero and define pathways to achieve that.
Honoured to have co-chaired the technical negotiations- Just Transition Pathway Work Programme #JTWP under the #PA. @COP28 will hold a presidential consultation to reach a decision. Developing countries have stated that #JTWP is one of the critical outcomes of COP28, & I agree.🧵
