Art group & youth initiative in Tonga, enriching the youth through the arts & community work since 2008. Everyone welcome, we like sharing kava and stories
Selekā has been busy painting murals all around Tongatapu recently, in the spirit to lift up people’s spirits in a difficult year for #Tonga, and to bring art to all corners of the island and connect with the wider community 👨🏽🎨🇹🇴
This project is supported by the @commonwealthorg
Hanging out at the studio at the end of a long day driving around the island to document the murals that have been painted this year.
What a nice way to rest with more art after an art and community focused day!
I remember this lecture i did thanks to @_PatrickThomsen 🙏 I spoke on traditional tongan leadership and the Tongan royal family in modern times. I didn't mean to offend anyone but it's a fact, "Not all royals are from noble (chiefly) families, not all nobility are royalty..."
Going through the motions this morning & diving out of sight when I start weeping or shaking. I'm talking about it with everyone & practicing techniques @MedicalPasifika taught us. Sharing our vulnerabilities is part of being strong. Comforted by cars driving by blasting music🎶
Artworks made by Tēvita Lātū shortly after the January 2022 eruption in #Tonga
They were a way to process what happened -the eruption itself, and its effect on the people.
1- Puna e Afi (eruption)
2- ‘Uha Efu (ash rain)
Mixed media on paper. Shipping worldwide. Dm for more info
Last of the 2022 artworks for sale (for now at least)
This year has been a doozy. Not always in the best of ways, but humanity shone through in solidarity from around the world. We are grateful.

While he was not meeting his friends, Tēvita took Selekā painting murals around Tongatapu. That’s a fantastic way to use one’s time and make things a little less gloomy for everyone 🔆
Unlike the murals, the artworks of this thread are for sale
Keep your eyes peeled on Instagram @ tevitalatuart for very soon upcoming artworks for sale by Tēvita Lātū -they’ll be posted here as well, but following on IG can’t hurt if you like to see more Tongan art 😉
