I think this is where I felt the biggest difference, too. What really stood out to me in the English version was how directly DB’s feelings as an “older brother” were described—the warmth he felt toward the first family he’d ever had, the sense of responsibility he felt as their provider, and the pride he felt in that role.

In the original Japanese version, all of that is left unsaid, so it feels like the story leaves it entirely up to the reader to imagine what kind of time the two of them spent together, and how DB gradually came to accept RH as his real little brother. Honestly, though, I think that even if those feelings are simply omitted in the Japanese version, DB in both versions must have felt exactly what the English version describes. So it didn’t really change my interpretation of DB. But that’s just how I personally felt about it, and I can imagine someone else might come away with a completely different impression...

(This is really just my personal interpretation, but) I do feel like the English version puts much more emphasis on DB having genuinely tried to be a good “older brother,” whereas the Japanese version doesn’t quite highlight that aspect as much. And I wonder if that’s because the focus of the story itself is more centered on DB’s inner thoughts.

DB seems like a pretty emotionally dishonest person in a lot of ways. It feels like he hides the feelings he had as an “older brother” and instead tells himself, “RH’s the one who decided to call me his brother on his own~” almost as if he’s lying to himself. Sometimes it even seems like DB has no awareness at all that he actually became a good older brother to RH.

If anything, he’s the one who blames himself and regrets things, even thinking that he’s more of an idiot than RH... And that’s what makes me kind of sad for him. He must have worked so hard to be a good older brother, yet he doesn’t seem to have any confidence that he actually was one.

Anyway, I just hope that everyone can see that DB really does love RH with all his heart, and that he’s been trying his best to be a good older brother for RH all this time.

(Sorry for the somewhat random reply! I’ve been thinking about the differences between the English and Japanese versions for the past few days, and I just wanted to share my thoughts with someone...)
