One of the most common complaints I tend to hear from folks who can't make a significant progress in their creative pursuit is that they feel like it's impossible to do so in a 9-5 world.
While we like the idea of quitting everything, locking yourself in cabin, and fully immersing yourself in the thing is very attractive, it is unfortunately not how it's done today by the vast majority of practitioners, and definitely not how it's been done historically:
- Philip Glass was a taxi driver and plumber while developing his avant-garde musical style. His dedication led to groundbreaking compositions.
- Flannery O'Connor, known for her Southern Gothic literature, was trying to make it as a fiction writer while managing a farm. Her short stories and novels, including "A Good Man Is Hard to Find," eventually showcased her exceptional literary talent.
- T.S. Eliot worked as a banker while penning some of the most influential poems of the 20th century, including "The Waste Land."
- Octavia E. Butler juggled various jobs, including telemarketing and dishwasher, to support her writing. She broke barriers with works like "Kindred" and became the first science fiction writer to receive the MacArthur Fellowship.
- Haruki Murakami managed a jazz club alongside his creative career. The discipline he cultivated during these early years contributed to his later success.
- Jack London engaged in a variety of jobs, including being an oyster pirate, before becoming a prolific and celebrated author with works like "The Call of the Wild."
- Harper Lee, known for the timeless classic "To Kill a Mockingbird," worked as an airline reservation clerk while writing.
- Richard Serra supported his artistic pursuits by grinding away in steel mills. Today, he's renowned for his massive metal sculptures displayed in prominent institutions.
- Kurt Vonnegut was a public relations man for General Electric while writing novels that later became classics, including "Slaughterhouse-Five."
- Anton Chekhov, a physician by profession, wrote masterful plays and short stories while practicing medicine.
It goes without saying that navigating a full-time job and/or family and creative pursuits requires a strategic approach. But this balancing act can become an art form in itself—imbued with challenges, triumphs, and raw material for your creations✨
I'm thankful for the treasure of family, the strength of our team, the doors of opportunity, the trust of clients, and the gift of good health.

If you treat your new business like most people, you’re going to get average results.
And unfortunately, the average new business fails.
Most people skimp on the brand and experience, fully intending to launch the 'real' one later on.

@AetnaHelp Rude: Well you can only do 30/60/90 at other pharmacies
Me: it was 30, and that doesn't make sense bc I can use any pharmacy. Why does your story keep changing, and why are you using that tone with me?
@AetnaHelp Me, it says 30 days, the last rep said 30. The prescription said 30. 1/day then 2/day is why there are 50 pills
Rude: well it wasn't a CVS pharmacy
Me: what does that matter, you guys denied it, not the pharmacy
