Nothing is more disheartening as an Iranian to see comments in favor of regime apologists and sympathizers, and of Marandi who served in the IRGC and worked as an advisor to the regime’s former president, the Butcher of Tehran (Raisi).

This is a regime that lynches young people from cranes daily (Mohammad Mehdi Karimi, 21) that shoots protestors to death (Hadis Najafi, 22), that beats protestors to death (Sarina Esmailzadeh, 17), and rapes and kills 16 year olds and dumps their unrecognizably mutilated bodies in the street (Nika Shakarami).

Because of the world’s hated for Israel, they are now unanimously supporting this regime and advocates of this regime, at the expense of 90 million Iranians and calling it “truth” and “credibility.”

Supporting a terrorist regime and its proxies because you’re so indoctrinated by anti-western propaganda is not the “truth and justice” you think it is.

One of the most frustrating aspects of diplomacy and normalization rhetoric is that because it sounds so sensible, it ends up appealing to the rational minded people who may not have a clear picture of how dangerous it is, as it was with the Nazi regime—both expansionist and volatile.

This is exactly like detached western pundits unfamiliar with the Middle East who say, “have you tried just talking to Hamas?” It’s a failure to understand their processes and objectives.

We’ve tried normalization with the regime under the JCPOA and even the architect of that arrangement—Obama—admitted it was a mistake. Here was the disastrous result:

- the IRGC inherited hundreds of billions in frozen assets and more in sanctions relief
- the IRGC strengthened its brutal repression over the Iranian people
- the regime’s proxies destabilizing the Middle East were strengthen financially and its weaponry drastically increased
- Syria, Gaza, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen grew increasingly destabilized and used as terroristic outposts
- millions suffered as a direct consequence.
- the agreement had sunset provisions (meaning it expired) and the regime’s nuclear program & weapons cache became hundreds of billions better endowed.

“But this doesn’t affect us in the west!”

Yes, it does. The regime has made clear its intention and ideologies: death to America & Israel, and regional domination in the form of an Islamic Republic that stretches across the MENA region from which to carry out its objective. Its ballistic missiles have the potential to carry nuclear warheads and can already reach parts of Europe.

That is intent + ability + actions in furtherance of.

Those arguing for “normalization” and “diplomacy” are pushing for suicide dressed as reason, and history books have shown them to be consistently wrong.

Support the Iranian people’s grassroots uprising against the regime and let them take the threat out themselves. Stop doing relations with and giving money to their oppressors and stand with them instead. It’s that simple.
