Cottage in Dorset looking a lot more stable now. Still drainage to install at the bottoms of the walls and internal lime plastering to allow it breathe after about 70 years of being tanked at least twice 🥴 #lime#dorset#cob#hotlime
@MatthewJDalby@DarrenMcLean_uk that’s newtonite lath made from bitumen - really traps the moisture, and the nails which hold it usually rust completely out. Seen it a fair bit here usually on cob walls where it literally falls off the walls!
Limestone wall using reclaimed stone we have finished today (good weather still 👍) all with lime mortar. One side of a entranceway, stage 2 yet to come #lime#building#dorset#limestone#walls
@neilrgolding Thanks Neil, specified with moderately hydraulic lime for this job - pretty exposed location and generally hard limestone so we used Otterbien 3.5 with local gritty sand
Cottage up Coffin Lane hot lime washed today, limewash shows where the wall is still wet - under the windows has not carbonated because the old windows had no cills and water was pouring in. The lime will help to evaporate 👍 #lime#hotlime#traditional#conservation#limerender
