The #zebrafish-#Trypanosome model strikes again! Thanks to the transparency of zebrafish we were able to SEE the formation of foamy macrophages (fat cells) for the first time during an extracellular trypanosome infection, in vivo, in a live vertebrate host! Seeing is believing!
Last month, on the 5th of June, I successfully defended my phd thesis entitled "Visualising blood flagellates infections in transparent zebrafish" @WUR.
Thank you all for the (online) support!
Lovely new article from @GeertWiegertjes,@mariaFWUR and Annelieke Wentzel. Congrats all! Fish Macrophages Show Distinct Metabolic Signatures Upon Polarization https://t.co/tn1feZH4Ee
Ready for my talk today at the @ShefUni_IICD. Thank you @elkslab_sheff for the invitation! I realised i have a great story to tell and it is all thanks to the hard work of 2 PhDs, Eva Doro, @SemJacobs1 and 1 then BSc @ffionruth. Sorry, i have to say it....#WomenRock!
Happy #WomenInScience Day! 👩🔬👩🚀 Let’s smash stereotypes, defy gender bias and defeat discrimination that holds women and girls back in Science, Tech, Engineering and Math.
Fascinating talk from @MariaFWUR at @ShefUni_IICD. Seeing is very much believing in zebrafish trypanosome infection! And a shout out from Maria to excellent lab work from Eva Doro, @SemJacobs1 and our very own @ffionruth
Somites of a 2-day old zebrafish tail, stained for actin (phalloidin in orange) and nuclei (DAPI in blue). This Zeiss 710 confocal image deconvolved with Huygens Professional, won the third prize this year. https://t.co/QQkeATROVR

Transparent zebrafish allow scientists to watch how trypanosomes move and behave inside a host, which may hint at new ways of fighting these deadly infections in future https://t.co/6euWQrHepH
Our @eLife paper is out! Have you even seen how a trypanosome really swims in the blood and tissues of its vertebrate host? Have a look at our amazing high-speed videos! https://t.co/3wI4toM2MY @ZebrafishRock@WURanimal
Excited to share our (my first) publication! We visualise for the first time trypanosome swimming behaviour in a natural host environment. @ffionruth@MariaFWUR#zebrafish#microscopy https://t.co/hl2QCfNN7l
