https://t.co/BcyVEV75Qn #Ethiopia|s posture evokes the Tigrinya proverb: “ሃሪሙኒ በኽዩ ቀዲሙኒ ኸሲሱ”, the guilty party PP, plays the victim, crying foul before the injured party, #Eritrea, can speak. By rushing to portray itself as the aggrieved party, Addis Ababa appears intent on shaping the international narrative and diverting attention from its internal conflicts and provocative regional rhetoric. But diplomatic theatre cannot substitute for evidence, and being first to make an accusation does not establish innocence.

As for the conflict entrepreneurs and media who have come out of their foxholes to serve the PP’s political agenda by amplifying its unsubstantiated allegations against #Eritrea, while ignoring the destruction and suffering unfolding within #Ethiopia, they only compromise their own credibility and integrity.

Diverting attention from the loss of Ethiopian lives and livelihoods does not absolve those enabling or prolonging the suffering. Diplomatic and political shields must not become cover for human tragedy unfolding across #Ethiopia.

#Eritrea will not be scapegoated for #Ethiopia|s internal crises, nor intimidated into surrendering its sovereign rights. The international community must examine the chronology of events, scrutinize the evidence, and apply the @UN Charter and international law consistently.

#Eritrea: Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Sends Letter to the UN Security Council;
10 October 2026

1. In its communications to the UN Security Council yesterday, Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry has formally informed the UN Security Council that it is “taking measures” to implement the war of aggression that it has declared against Eritrea for three-years now.

2. Ethiopia’s deceitful attempts to rationalize its brazen acts of war against a sovereign UN member State in “self-defense” terms is hollow in substance and constitutes an insult to the intelligence of the international community.

3. Ethiopia’s provocative acts of war and regional destabilization had in fact elicited the UNSG and many UN member States to issue coordinated Statements on the 25thAnniversary of the Algiers Agreement in December last year that underlined the urgency and imperative of respecting Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

4. But Ethiopia did not only fail to heed these warnings; it has gone further to incorporate and operationalize its long-planned invasion of Eritrea as part and parcel of the huge offensive it has unleashed in northern Ethiopia.

5. In the event, Eritrea requests the UN Security Council to forcefully condemn Ethiopia’s deplorable declaration of war against Eritrea, which will inculcate huge devastation to the peoples of both countries and destabilize the whole region, and take the requisite deterrent measures against it in accordance with Chapter VII of the UN Charter.

#Eritrea: Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Sends Letter to the UN Security Council

Ref-OM/261/26
October 10, 2026

Excellency,

In its communications to the UN Security Council yesterday, 9 October 2026, Ethiopia’s Foreign Ministry has formally informed the UN Security Council that it is “taking measures” to implement the war of aggression that it has declared against Eritrea for three-years now.

Ethiopia’s deceitful attempts to rationalize its brazen acts of war against a sovereign UN member State in “self-defense” terms is hollow in substance and constitutes an insult to the intelligence of the international community.

As it will be recalled, Eritrea had repeatedly brought to the attention of the international community, Ethiopia’s dogged pursuit of an unprovoked agenda of war against Eritrea to forcefully acquire “sovereign access to the sea” in flagrant breach of Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In this respect, the litany of Ethiopia’s unlawful threats and war plans against Eritrea, which violate foundational principles and pillars of the UN Charter, and that even denigrate and deny Eritrea’s inviolable sovereignty as well as hard-won independence, are on public record.

But Ethiopia did not only fail to heed these warning; it has gone further to incorporate and operationalize its long-planned invasion of Eritrea as part and parcel of the huge offensive it has unleashed in northern Ethiopia.

Indeed, Ethiopia’s Deputy Chief of Staff, General Abebaw Tadesse, bluntly stated on 27 September last month that the “ultimate objective of the war was to invade Assab, that Mekelle, the capital city of the Tigray Administrative Region, was a mere stop-over towards the invasion of Eritrea”.

Just in case you’ve forgotten the true cost of war.

Decades of war. Countless families shattered. Generations of sacrifice. And still, Ethiopia’s rulers have not learned the ultimate lesson: you cannot achieve anything by threatening your neighbor.

THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL MUST ACT BEFORE THE HORN OF AFRICA ERUPTS
Wars rarely begin without warning. Before the first shot is fired, there are threats, military calculations, escalating rhetoric, and foreign interference. The Horn of Africa is now flashing precisely those warning signs. The question is no longer whether the international community can see the danger. The question is whether it will act before the danger becomes another devastating regional war.
At the center of the growing regional anxiety is the government of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
There is an important distinction that must not be blurred: Ethiopia’s desire for reliable commercial access to the sea is one question; sovereignty over another country’s territory or coastline is an entirely different one.

Eritrea Accuses Ethiopia of Preparing for War to Seize Red Sea Coast

Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Meskel agreed with what I wrote earlier today, saying the Ethiopian government is preparing to launch a “war of aggression” against Eritrea, accusing Addis Ababa of seeking what it calls “sovereign access to the sea” and aiming to expand its naval presence and power along the Eritrean coast.

Meskel said the Ethiopian government, from the prime minister down to senior military and political officials, “has been incessantly beating the drums of war,” adding that in recent weeks Addis Ababa has sought to repackage its war agenda as “self-defense” by leveling accusations against Eritrea.

The minister cited statements by an Ethiopian general who, according to Meskel, said: “When we launch the attack, we will not stop in Tigray. Our main objective is to raise our flag on the Red Sea.” On another occasion, the general reportedly said: “Mekelle is only a transit point; our final destination is Assab.”

Meskel said these statements, along with Addis Ababa’s positions over the past three years, reveal what he described as a broader effort to create a “false narrative of self-defense” to justify what he called an aggressive war against Eritrea.

He accused the Ethiopian government of committing a “blatant and reckless violation of international law,” saying that this reality “cannot be erased through misleading narratives.”
