In 2012, Anthony Omari, a 24-year-old who worked at a Kenyan orphanage, confronted three machete-armed intruders breaking in. Despite being outnumbered, Omari fought them off, ensuring the children's safety before collapsing from a machete wound to his face that required stitches for an 11-inch cut.

Ben Hardwick, a 21-year-old Penn State student interning nearby, learned about Omari's brave act and decided to help. He shared Omari's story on Reddit to raise $2,000 for a new, larger fence for the orphanage. Surprisingly, within 24 hours, the campaign raised $65,000 in donations.
