To visit an 83-year-old woman in a detention cell.

Dr. Hak Ja Han has been held at Seoul Detention Center for 157 days.

On February 26, a delegation led by Bishop Luonne Rouse visited her behind bars.

They came as part of the 2026 World Clergy Leadership Conference National Prayer Rally.

What they found: a religious leader who, rather than asking for sympathy, spent her limited visitation time encouraging her visitors to carry out God's will.

The delegation issued a joint petition calling for:

･ Humanitarian treatment for an elderly detainee in declining health
･ Protection of religious freedom and conscience
･ Reconciliation over retribution

Johannes Ndanga, president of the Africa Christian Council International, said the scene reminded him of the persecution of the innocent in the time of Jesus.

Bishop Rouse stressed this was not about defending one organization. It was about defending universal principles of justice and conscience.

The petition will be formally submitted to South Korean judicial authorities and shared with international human rights bodies.
