Happy 75th birthday to Senator Richard Polanco, a trailblazer who opened doors for generations of Latino leaders. I had the honor of celebrating Richard today at the Los Angeles City Council.
During his 16 years in the California Legislature, Richard served as the Senate Majority Leader, grew the number of Latino legislators from 7 to 24, made Cesar Chavez's birthday a state holiday, and helped over 500,000 Californians become naturalized citizens.
Richard showed us what it means to build power, use it for good, and lift others as you climb. Thank you for your tireless work and unwavering commitment to our communities.
We also unveiled two bills, #SB1422 (@SenMariaEDurazo) which would end the currently imposed freeze on Medi-Cal enrollment for undoc. Californians, & #AB2161 (@AsmMiaBonta) which would prevent Trump-style work requirements from being imposed on some Californians. #Health4All

Big news! Over $215 million in new state funding is coming to our district - expanding mental health and substance use disorder treatment for thousands of Angelenos who have been waiting far too long for care.

This is what we fought for. And it's happening.

California's hospitals and clinics are on the precipice. Federal cuts are hitting hard, and last year's Medi-Cal enrollment freeze is making it worse.
These decisions don't save money. (1/3
They shift costs onto counties, onto hospitals, and onto emergency rooms at 10 times the cost of a routine visit. That's the math we need to pay attention to.

The people we are fighting for are contributors. They are taxpayers. They are part of what makes this state great. They deserve access to the same care we all do.
That's why I'm carrying SB 1422. Let's get this done. (3/3)
