Our young men felt angry, sad, and heartbroken. So much so that some might disband the rehabilitative, educational pathway they were on altogether. As I write: "Another dream crushed." https://t.co/JFzZvjumDw
I’m hiring a legislative assistant! You can get more information and apply here: https://t.co/DTDrZqYJfb Please share with your friends and professional networks as well! #WALeg
It’s the first day of the 2024 legislative session! I'm honored by the opportunity to serve and excited for the important work we’ll be doing this year on housing affordability, funding education, juvenile justice and more!
Exciting news – I’m joining our Senate Democratic Caucus leadership team, serving as our new Deputy Floor Leader! This is an important role helping to choose which bills come up for a vote and working to ensure everything goes smoothly and successfully on the Senate floor. #WALeg
Every bill is a work of compromise, and what passed today was a more progressive option than was considered at the end of the regular session. My seatmates and I voted yes, because we think it'll help people in need, but there's still more to do https://t.co/EhlH67pxsE
Another bill signed into law! SB 5229 will help ensure every corner of Washington can build the infrastructure it takes for their economy to grow, businesses to succeed, and family-wage jobs to flourish. Learn more here! https://t.co/rYN6kodqYQ #WALeg
Lots of #WALeg news on the front page of the Seattle Times today, including a great story about how manufactured housing park residents are working together to protect their homes, and mentioning how my bill SB 5198 could help! Read it here: https://t.co/7ayansC1Lz
A historic day for housing in the Senate! We passed Rep. Jessica Bateman’s HB 1110, to expand our supply of affordable housing by legalizing more options across Washington. Our work on housing affordability is far from done, but this is a huge step forward. #WALeg
The Senate just passed HB 1394 - legislation to break the cycle of sexual abuse and assault, and to use an evidence-based and effective response to youth who commit sexual offenses. This is a tough issue but this bill will really help, and I’m glad to see it move #WALeg
I’m glad that #WALeg is taking real action on gun safety this session! We need to protect our kids, communities, and schools from the horrifying threat of gun violence, and our ten-day waiting period bill and assault weapons ban will make a real difference to help.
Proud to vote yes today on HB 1474, to help undo decades of institutional racism by providing financial assistance to those harmed by the past injustice of racially restrictive real estate covenants!
Passed the House!
SB 5242 restricts cost-sharing for abortion. This bill ensures equity and fairness for everyone receiving critical reproductive care. Nobody should be unable to access the care they need because of their inability to pay. #WALeg
Gov. Inslee signed SB 5198 into law, my bill to provide stability and predictability for residents of manufactured home parks. Read more about it here: https://t.co/lMmsBrfHhj #WALeg
Thanks to the #WALeg House for unanimously passing SB 5229, my bill to help all of Washington benefit from strong economic infrastructure! It’s headed to the Governor’s desk for signature, you can learn more about the bill here: https://t.co/HqrJgtU7IL
I’m encouraged by this ruling, and our work on reforming our tax system so the wealthiest few pay what they owe must continue with our Washington State Wealth Tax #WALeg https://t.co/pe8S8o3FHZ
My legislation to support the residents of manufactured home parks has passed the House and is on its way to the Governor’s desk! These folks deserve predictability and stability in their residences and I’m glad this bill will help with that. #WALeg
We passed the missing middle housing bill out of Senate Housing Committee today. This is a big step forward for increasing housing supply & helping to drive down housing costs, while keeping working families local & people in homes! I hope to see it on the floor soon! #WALeg
Thank you to everyone who joined our virtual town hall last night! It was great to talk about what's on your mind – fixing our tax code, affordable housing, funding education, and everything else. If you missed it live, you can watch the recording: https://t.co/NhiAPdRYgL #WALeg
One of the fun parts about #WALeg is meeting people from industries and groups across WA. My staff & I met some actors and crew from our film industry. It was interesting to hear about what we can do to ensure people who want to make movies and TV shows about WA, film them in WA.
Roosevelt HS Sophomore Guin joined me in the Senate last week as a page! The page program offers young people a week of interactive learning about how state government works. It was a lot of fun to be able to show Guin around the capitol. #WALeg
