Sen. Sanders of Vermont, Ranking Member of U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions, longest-serving independent in congressional history.
Not only did Netanyahu commit genocide in Gaza. Now he's threatening Israeli filmmakers who exposed it with criminal charges and attempting to strip citizenship from anyone who "defames" soldiers.
NO MORE U.S. TAXPAYER FUNDING FOR THE EXTREMIST NETANYAHU GOVERNMENT IN ISRAEL
Number of Americans uninsured or underinsured: 85 million
Total medical debt in America: $220 billion
Insurance company profits last year: $54 billion
Solution: Medicare for All, which would save over $1 trillion and 114,000 lives each and every year.
Let's get it done.
No, Mr. Trump. The high price of gas is not "a very inexpensive price" to pay for your illegal war in Iran.
Ordinary Americans can't afford $4.44 a gallon for gas.
Truckers can't afford $6.40 a gallon for diesel.
Families can't afford $5.50 for heating oil.
End this war NOW!
The American people are sick and tired of funding Israel's genocide in Gaza.
Now Trump is doubling down and using OUR taxpayer dollars to give the extremist Netanyahu government $2.8 billion in bombs.
Not acceptable. Congress must reject these agreements.
My message to the AI CEO’s:
If you truly care about the future of humanity, stop pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into super PACs to defeat Members of Congress and candidates who are fighting for serious guardrails on AI.
No, Mr. President. The Supreme Court justices who blocked your efforts to suppress mail-in ballots and keep millions from voting are not being “bullied” or “cajoled.”
They were upholding our Constitution and defended the fundamental right of Americans to choose their leaders at the ballot box.
Trump is lashing out at SCOTUS after they blocked his mail-in ballot scheme, calling it “a big loss for Republicans.” He attacked mail-in voting, accused justices of being intimidated by Democrats, and declared: “These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court.”
Opposition to uncontrolled AI is growing across the political spectrum.
I agree with Peggy Noonan, the former Ronald Reagan speechwriter and conservative Wall Street Journal columnist that we need to “hit the brakes hard” and pause AI for humanity’s sake.
Oligarchy is not just an American issue. It is global. The billionaires are not just buying American politicians, they are funding right-wing parties all over the world — including the UK Reform Party. Democracy means one person, one vote. The ultra-rich must not be allowed to buy governments ANYWHERE.
Dario Amodei, Elon Musk and Sam Altman now agree that we must slow down the development of AI and “pace the frontier.”
That’s a start, but it’s not enough.
When you are racing towards a cliff, you don’t just ease up on the gas pedal. You hit the brakes.
When the future of humanity is at stake we need a PAUSE on advanced AI development and a ban on artificial superintelligence — an AI mind smarter than any human and capable of operating independently beyond our control.
At their upcoming AI summit, Trump and Xi must negotiate a treaty to pause AI and ban superintelligence before it is too late.
While you never got that $2,000 tariff refund check that Trump promised, here’s who did:
Walmart: $2.9 billion
Apple: $2.2 billion
Nike: $986 million
Amazon: $600 million
GM: $500 million
UPS: $500 million
The Trump Administration: Of, by, and for the billionaire class.
Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11th, let us honor the 3,000 people who lost their lives in a horrific terrorist attack, and the courage of the first responders who risked their own lives to save others.
Their selfless acts showed the very best of us as a nation.
Last night, Donald Trump, our pathological liar-in-chief, said:
“Every single promise I made to you as a candidate, I’ve delivered on. I’ve delivered on everything.”
Really?
Well, let’s go down the list.
Since becoming president again, Trump promised:
✅ $5,000 DOGE dividend checks. A lie.
✅ $2,000 tariff dividend checks. A lie.
✅ $1,000+ checks by repealing ACA subsidies. A lie.
✅ A 10% cap on credit card interest rates. A lie.
✅ “The lowest drug prices in the world.” A lie.
✅ $2 a gallon gas. A lie.
✅ An end to inflation “starting on Day One.” A lie.
✅ An end to “endless wars.” A lie.
And now, after all of those lies, Trump wants you to believe that he will give every American adult a $5,000 check - but only if the Republicans win the midterms.
No. I don’t think so. The Trump Administration is not about helping working families. It’s about giving a trillion dollars in tax breaks to the 1% and throwing 15 million Americans off the health care they have.
Jacob Coxon is not alone: AI Superintelligence is an Existential Threat to Humanity
Recently, Jacob Coxon, a former researcher at Anthropic and OpenAI, sent shockwaves throughout the world by stating, “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
Incredibly, in less than 48 hours, Mr. Coxon’s social media statement has been viewed by more than 150 million people.
But let’s be clear: Mr. Coxon is not alone in his fears.
Leading experts inside and outside the AI industry have been echoing Mr. Coxon’s clarion call for years.
And that is that unless we reverse course, there is a very real possibility that once advanced AI surpasses human intelligence, it could escape our control with catastrophic consequences.
In other words, advanced AI and superintelligence pose an existential threat to humanity.
That is why I will soon be introducing legislation with Representative @RepCasar to pause advanced AI and ban superintelligence altogether.
Please take a moment to read what just a few of these experts have said in the past few days.
Thanks to @TaylorPopielarz for assembling this research.
Paul Christiano, Member of the OpenAI nonprofit board’s Safety and Security Committee: "Based on the recent trajectory of capabilities and the continued difficulty of alignment, I now believe there is a meaningful risk that rapid acceleration in AI capabilities leads to catastrophic and irreversible loss of control in the very near term. I do not think that the AI industry in general, including OpenAI, is currently on track to reduce this risk to an acceptable level … If we build superintelligence without more robust alignment I expect we will permanently lose control of it. If that happens then most people could die. I believe we would need domestic and international coordination to ensure global consistency and reduce risk to an acceptable level.”
Samuel Marks, Scalable Oversight lead at Anthropic: "AI developers believe their technology could cause human extinction (or similarly bad outcomes). This could happen in the next few years.”
Evan Hubinger, Alignment Science lead at Anthropic: "Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!”
Alex Turner, former Research Scientist at Google DeepMind: "I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that."
Jakub Pachocki, Chief Scientist at OpenAI: "This is a time that calls for extreme caution. I am concerned no one is prepared for the consequences of a continued rapid rise in machine intelligence.”
Jason Wolfe, Researcher at OpenAI: "I don't know what my probabilities are on literal extinction, but I think there are a number of ways AI could go poorly for humanity, and at the current frankly terrifying pace humanity will be quite lucky if we manage to find and stay on the narrow path between all the bad outcomes.
Jonathan Richard Schwarz, former Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind: "I left DeepMind after 7 years (and since rejected offers to join the other two) due to severe concerns about the concentration of power these labs represent. What is currently happening in this field is deeply unhealthy for society.”
A recent poll shows that the American people overwhelmingly want to ban artificial super intelligence and pause the development of AI until we establish clear safety standards.
We tested @SenSanders and @RepCasar's bill to pause AI development and permanently ban the creation of AI superintelligence.
It's supported by 68% of voters — including 72% of Democrats, 70% of Independents, and 63% of Republicans.
A new NBC poll found 81% of Americans believe the government is not doing enough to regulate AI.
They’re right.
AI threatens our economy, privacy, democracy and the well-being of our kids.
Congress must stand up to the Big Tech oligarchs and protect the American people.
Over the last 50 years, $79 trillion has been transferred from the bottom 90% to the top 1%.
CEOs now make 350 times more than their average workers, while 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.
We can and must create an economy that works for all, not just the 1%.
On this Labor Day we give our thanks to the millions of trade unionists in our country who are leading the fight for economic, social and racial justice.
Thanks to all of you for what you’re doing. Let’s go forward together.
NEW: Dolly Parton was humble, generous, supported literacy and workers' rights, was an LGBTQ+ ally, and funded causes from disaster relief to medical research just to help others.
Parton's America was the opposite of Trump's. https://t.co/HpzC0Oy3Y5
Not only has Trump’s illegal and disastrous war in Iran resulted in thousands of casualties, it is wreaking havoc on the economy.
The national average gas price has never been above $4 a gallon on Labor Day Weekend. Today, it’s $4.15.
We must end this war NOW.
