Proud to partner with Gov Hochul and local healthcare providers on a NYS investment in vulnerable communities. Steps from Tops on Jefferson Ave., where 10 lives were lost in the May 14 racist mass shooting, we're investing in a place that will help bring new life into the world.
I am honored to celebrate Buffalo’s 50th Anniversary Juneteenth Festival as Governor Kathy Hochul signed the Harriet Tubman Byway bill into law. I am proud to advance this legislation with Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes. Happy Juneteenth, Buffalo!
I am proud to complete my second year serving in the New York State Senate. I am grateful to represent District 63 and proud of the legislation we passed this session to make New York more equitable. I look forward to continuing this work in the year ahead.
I am honored to be named on the 2026 City & State Who’s Who in Sports influencer list. A special shoutout to my colleagues and good friends, Senator Jamaal T. Bailey and Senator Jose M. Serrano, for their recognition as well:

As the legislative session ends, I’m proud of the work we accomplished to strengthen our communities and move our state forward. Thank you, District 63, for your trust and support. It’s an honor to serve, and I look forward to continuing this work together.
I am proud to support legislation expanding opportunities for MWBEs by improving the certification process. I also honored Army PFC Travis Krege, whose bravery and sacrifice will be recognized through the naming of the Cleveland Drive bridge in his honor
I am proud to have passed legislation making Buffalo’s Fruit Belt residential parking permit program permanent. It protects neighborhood parking access and helps ensure the people who call the Fruit Belt home can find a parking spot close to where they live.
As Wegmans expands into North Carolina, many New York communities still face barriers to fresh food access. The NYS Senate passed the F.R.E.S.H. Communities Act, and we secured $500,000 for a Buffalo pilot to support local grocers and strengthen neighborhood food access.
Last week in Albany, we passed the NYS Budget, following many weeks of negotiations. I’m continuing to build on that momentum this week to pass critical legislation before session ends. In the final stretch I am committed to passing legislation that will improve our communities!
“Paper Thin” was one of the first rap songs I learned as a kid. MC Lyte, your impact on women in hip-hop inspired me deeply. Meeting you was special. You’re fun, cool, and down-to-earth. Thank you for breaking barriers and inspiring generations. 💫 #alwayslyteasarock
The 2026 State Legislature celebration of Black Music Month was a star-studded event. Congratulations to my colleague and Soror, @SenatorLeaWebb Webb, on a fantastic reception. Proud to have nominated Sheila Brown, owner of @wufopower965wny as an honoree.
57 days past due, the state budget has finally passed with major investments to strengthen communities, ease rising costs, and address long-standing inequities. Despite the delay, I stayed committed to fighting for the 63rd District every step of the way.
I am honored to recognize Army Veteran Jerry C. Bowman for his Vietnam service with the 4th Psychological Warfare Battalion and 173rd Airborne Brigade. A decorated Sergeant and lifelong veterans advocate, congratulations on his induction into the NYS Veterans Hall of Fame.
