Senator Ben Cardin

Former US Senator for Maryland. #TeamMarylandAlways

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Thank you my dear and lifelong friend
@StenyHoyer for all you have done to make our community,
state, nation and world a better place for all. You have been the role model for public service.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

A Baltimore legend. A friend. An American patriot, role model and trailblazer. We both joined Congress in 1987 for the 100th Congress; it was a special group of leaders. Thank you, @SpeakerPelosi for all you have done for our nation.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Today, a new chapter begins with Senator @AlsobrooksForMD sworn in to office. Thank you, Maryland, for allowing me to serve our great state for so many years. It has been the honor of my life.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act President Carter championed remains a cornerstone in the fight against corruption. @CarterCenter has set a global standard in advancing public health, election integrity and peacebuilding. This vision of a more just world continues to inspire us.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Jimmy Carter reimagined how we could lead on the world stage, integrating human rights into foreign policy in ways that forever changed US diplomacy. Prioritizing universal values in natl security vs strictly transactional exchanges makes us a stronger &more compassionate partner

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

When I was a young state legislator in Annapolis, #JimmyCarter was coming on the national scene. He was a model to me that you can be honest and straightforward with the American people and you could accomplish a great deal.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

President Carter was humble and as genuine as they come. For me personally, and as a nation, we owe a lot to Jimmy Carter. My prayers are with his family and all those who knew him and were touched by his lifetime of public service. May his memory be a blessing.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

All of these ridiculous statements by @realDonaldTrump make our allies question if the U.S. is a reliable partner. They feed into Russia and China who are courting nations to lean towards them vs. the U.S. #nothelpful https://t.co/xxOQOCBmQf

[This Week @ThisWeekABC]

SUNDAY EXCLUSIVE: @jonkarl talks with retiring Maryland @SenatorCardin about America’s foreign policy challenges and how Democrats will approach a second Trump term. @ThisWeekABC https://t.co/tU4vLBvNks

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

This is a win for our national security and a win for our dedicated service members.

[Senator Chris Van Hollen @ChrisVanHollen]

Preserving the @mdnationalguard's air mission is critical to our state. I worked with @SenatorCardin & @GovWesMoore to secure this re-designation, which will also address personnel shortfalls & support our national security.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

United Airlines flight attendants made great sacrifices during the pandemic, when many took voluntary leaves of absence to save the airline industry. I urge @united to bargain in good faith to secure a strong contract for these heroes.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Looking forward to the discussion this morning.

[Fox News Sunday @FoxNewsSunday]

This Week on #FoxNewsSunday @ShannonBream is joined exclusively by @SenMullin & @SenatorCardin.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

It took the full strength of #TeamMaryland to finalize 100% federal funding for the replacement of the Key Bridge in Baltimore. We got it done. Thank you @ChrisVanHollen @RepKweisiMfume @GovWesMoore for being such tremendous partners in this effort.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

In these last few days, I’m working with colleagues to get as much as we can through the finish line—including protecting MD’s 150k+ federal workers & millions more nationwide.

Politicizing our federal workforce would compromise one of our greatest resources. That can’t happen.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Montgomery Co. is a national leader and one of the nation’s premier counties. They embraced diversity early on and address challenges with innovation and equity.

This county has not only kept me busy, but kept me bragging. Thanks for your incredible leadership and partnership.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Marylanders proudly support all of our service men and women, but on this day, as the home of the @NavalAcademy in Annapolis, there is only one thing to say: GO NAVY, BEAT ARMY! #ArmyNavyGame

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Not every shooting makes headlines, but the deadly and traumatic results are repeated over and over.

Words matter, but actions speak volumes. We need to renew the assault weapons ban and prohibit high-capacity magazines. #SandyHook

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

12 years after the mass shooting at #SandyHook Elementary, almost every community in this country has been permanently changed by gun violence. We cannot become numb to tragedy, no matter how frequently it occurs. Gun violence is a public health epidemic we cannot keep ignoring.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

We need to remember that compromise was how our nation was formed. It can be a good thing and bring people together. Compromise on policy but never on values. Treat people with respect even when you disagree. I have made that a guiding principle in my office. #CardinFarewell

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

Yesterday, I had the chance to say farewell to the Senate. I thank all of my colleagues and staff, as well as my wife Myrna, who were on hand for my remarks. It was a bittersweet moment.

I thank the people of Maryland for trusting me all these years.

[Senator Ben Cardin @SenatorCardin]

To my colleagues who will continue to serve in the U.S. Senate, I said, "... you will need to demonstrate to the American public by your actions that you can practice civility; that differences can be resolved constructively without harsh terms."
