I am a sitting GOP senator. There are some in my party who have begun to split ranks with President Trump. The President is causing chaos, and we must stop him.
I know some of you do not believe this is a real account. I would ask you to wait and watch as this plays out. I think we will end up removing this President. This does not that I am confident in a party that I, too, am finished with. This election will prove to be brutal(1/2)
For us in the senate. We recognize the growing deficit we face. And there is a sense of growing despair in our party as we watch the President in real time collaborate actively with our adversaries and make it known that he too, would like a dictatorship over democracy.
The impeachment and removal vote is established in secrecy, not in the public eye. I believe that we have enough support to where it’s possible the president will be convicted. Those are through personal conversations that I’ve had with several of my Republican colleagues.
Simply put, we cannot allow for this one man to tear down democracy as we know it. He has already done permanent damage to our institutions and turned fact into fiction. That’s a hallmark of a dictatorship. If my friends in the senate convict him, we will survive this.
From which, only a dictatorship can arise. We are on the precipice of being on the wrong side history. Some of my Republican colleagues realize that the President is morally, emotionally, mentally and even physically unfit to be in office. We are panicked behind closed doors.
“The great experiment” which our founders created; we cannot allow for the current occupant of the White House to destroy what is left of democracy. This will only drag the country further into what I believe personally the country cannot escape from; a bottomless partisan chasm.
I have thought about defecting to the other party, but if I did so, I would be found out immeadiately as to who I am and why I’m speaking out. My colleagues understand this — as many of them have thought of defecting from this dangerous, conspiracy-theorist party.
I am only speaking out because I feel a sense of urgency. I will vote to impeach and remove President Trump during the senate trial. If my Republican colleagues do not do so, I fear the consequences of four more years of this President.
We are aware that he needs to be impeached and removed from office. It is clear that he committed impeachable offenses and high crimes and misdemeanors. There are members who have yet to acknowledge this of course, but the vast majority of us realize what’s happening.
Don’t believe what you hear or read from the media. There are several senators, aside from myself, that have privately decided to split from the dangerous precedents President Trump is setting. I’ve called out privately, my GOP colleagues to stand up to this bully president.(1/2)
The truth is, there is fear in the Republican Party. I would know. I am one of them who has felt such fear from the President. He is not acting in his right mind & many in my party are aware of that. Behind closed doors, many of my colleagues have begun to reconcile that.(2/3)
