Happy Labor Day! Michigan has some of the hardest-working people in the world. Today we honor our workers and the labor movement that fought for fair wages, good benefits, and the right to organize. Michigan and our unions invented the middle class, and that work continues alongside the men and women in labor to protect it and expand it.

@michigantech I also got my own personal science fair with the students — everything from moon rovers and rockets to snowmobile engines. These students are incredibly passionate about their work, with some putting in 40 hours of time on these projects on top of their classwork.

A LOT of incredible, future-focused work is happening at @michigantech. I got the grand tour this morning of some of the incredible research happening here — from vehicles for the defense industry and climate science with their proprietary Pi Cloud chamber (a unique kind of cloud chamber pioneered by Michigan Tech that creates clouds in a controlled environment with moist, turbulent air currents), to the Great Lakes Research Center where they have autonomous vessels studying the Great Lakes and their work researching the minerals we need for our newest technologies.

My thoughts are with the families across Detroit dealing with the aftermath of Thursday's severe storm. The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down on the city's east side — the first tornado to hit Detroit in nearly 30 years.

For families on the lower east side, that means damaged homes, downed trees and power lines, and a lot of uncertainty about what comes next.

Mayor Mary Sheffield has declared a local state of emergency, an important step to get resources where they're needed most. My team is in touch with the Mayor's office, and we're ready to help make sure Detroit can recover and rebuild.

This marks the second time Slotkin has urged top federal officials to commit in writing that no armed agents or military personnel will be deployed to 2026 midterm polling sites.

Severe storms have devastated communities across Southeast Michigan, causing downed trees and power lines, property damage, flooding, and widespread power outages.

My team and I are in direct communication with local officials as they assess the damage and respond. We’ll continue working to ensure communities have the support they need.

To everyone impacted by these storms: please stay safe and use caution.

Hundreds of thousands of Michiganders lost power, with Oakland and Wayne counties among the hardest hit areas.

Great to spend some time at the @IBEW 906 hall in Marquette. We had a pizza party with some of their members and some folks from Carpenters and Millwrights 1510, UA 111, @AFSCME 925, and @AAUP Michigan. It was a great chance for me to pick their brains about what they’re seeing up here AND for them to ask me about what’s going on in Washington. Our top military leader has confirmed to me that he will not follow unlawful orders and deploy troops to the polls. Now we need it in writing from the top leaders at the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, FBI and National Guard.

My new favorite fun fact courtesy of the Michigan Milk Producers Ovid Plant: Michigan cows produce the most milk per cow in the entire country. The last few years have been huge for the dairy industry in Michigan. When I was first elected as a Congresswoman I was talking to farmers who were dumping milk because there weren’t enough dairy processing facilities. Eight years later, we have one of the biggest facilities in the country.

It’s important to meet Michiganders where they’re at. And this week, that meant visiting students in Ironwood at Gogebic Community College. From housing to good schools and good jobs – we must set these young folks up for success and do everything we can to keep them in Michigan after they graduate.

The average American can be subject to an IRS audit. But President Trump is suing the IRS to make sure he, his children, and his businesses can never be audited. This is just the next chapter in a much bigger story of deep, deep corruption.

I haven't seen a whole lot of bravery from my Republican colleagues in the Senate when it comes to standing up to this Administration. But I've been clear for a while: whether it is the war itself, the amount of money the Pentagon is spending without any transparency or accountability, the purges, or the corruption at the Pentagon -- all are cause for Hegseth to go.

1.2 million jobs in Michigan are directly or indirectly related to the auto industry. It is our economic backbone. I have a special responsibility to protect it.

Michigan has already weathered bad trade deals, and seen too many of our manufacturing jobs disappear offshore to places like China. We need to learn the lessons of the past 30 years, and pass my bipartisan bill to ban Chinese Communist Party-subsidized cars from coming into the United States.

Our nation’s top general has been clear that he will not follow unlawful orders and send uniformed military to the polls.

Now we need to know that the Department of Justice, Homeland Security, the FBI and the National Guard will follow the law, and not send federal agents to the polls to appease President Trump.
