The killing of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo shakes me to my core.

A husband. A father. A hardworking man who woke up every day striving to provide for the people he loved. This family should be together. Instead, they are grieving an unimaginable loss.

The American people, and Lorenzo’s family, deserve facts they can trust. That is why there must be a truly independent investigation, free from political influence.

Under Kash Patel, the FBI has lost the confidence of too many Americans to credibly investigate an incident involving another federal law enforcement agency on its own.

For months I have warned that this ICE agency has become increasingly reckless, chaotic, and unaccountable. It continues to operate with unprecedented levels of taxpayer funding, untethered from our nation’s highest ideals, and with tragically little oversight.

No agency entrusted with the power to detain, deport, or use deadly force can be permitted to operate without meaningful oversight and real accountability.

Our nation must never accept a standard where those entrusted with the greatest power face the least accountability.

I won’t stop fighting for New Jersey families still recovering from this year’s storms. Today’s denial of federal disaster assistance leaves communities that suffered significant damage without the support they urgently need.

New Jerseyans contribute significantly to federal emergencies when other regions of the country are in need. We also deserve the resources to recover, rebuild, and move forward.

Today the Supreme Court rejected Trump's unconstitutional order, and millions of families can breathe easier. But it never should have come this close.

Whether the Constitution protects every child born on our soil came down to a single vote. That's the terrifying signal: not that we lost, but that we almost did.

So our relief is real, and so is our resolve to keep fighting against xenophobia and bigotry.

The American people have made clear they want big money out of politics, but the Supreme Court just took a hammer to what few guardrails remain.

This morning, the corrupted Supreme Court showed us exactly how far they’re willing to go to expand Trump’s power, giving him control over the very agencies Congress designed to hold the powerful accountable by clearing the way for him to install loyalists who will do his bidding.

This is only possible because the conservative majority was willing to throw away 100-year precedent to achieve its aim of stripping agencies of independence from political interference. This is what is at stake: When you control the agencies that protect workers, consumers, and the environment, you threaten the stability of our markets, the fairness of our enforcement systems, and the trust Americans place in their government.

We must stand up for a government that works for the people, not one corrupt president.

The pain of those detained by Trump's cruel immigration policies is unimaginable. Today I met with some of the families of those being held in Delaney Hall.

These are not strangers they are people everybody knows. Some worked for FedEx, some cared for family members and are now missing graduations, and none of the relatives of the constituents we talked to have committed violent or serious crimes.

The families have waited for hours to visit with the detainees in the freezing cold and blistering heat, they are being forced to spend thousands on lawyers fees, and some of their loved ones are struggling with proper access medical care in this for-profit prison.

We have to end this nightmare that is tearing families apart and affecting communities across the country. I'll continue to fight to close Delaney Hall and end the Trump administration's chaotic and cruel policies.

This morning the Supreme Court handed President Trump two victories — gutting protections Congress built for people fleeing violence and persecution. Both 6-3 decisions. Both written by Justice Alito.

In the TPS case, the Court ruled judges can't even review the decision to strip legal status from 350,000 Haitians and 6,000 Syrians — a ruling that also threatens more than a million other TPS holders the administration is trying to strip protections from — people who've lived and worked here legally, many raising US-born kids. The Court didn't find their countries safe. It found that no court is allowed to examine the decision at all.

In Al Otro Lado, the Court allowed the president to turn asylum seekers away before they reach US soil — so they never get the hearing Congress guaranteed.

This Court keeps clearing Trump's path to slam shut the legal doors Congress opened for people fleeing danger. I'll keep fighting for the New Jersey families whose lives these decisions put at risk.

This President treats the Justice Department like his own personal law firm--flouting the rule of law and enriching himself and his family.

Now, his personal lawyer Todd Blanche--his pick for Attorney General--has granted him, his family, and his businesses broad immunity.

This is a devastating blow in our fight to hold big pesticide companies accountable for the harm caused by their toxic chemicals.

It is terrible that the Trump Administration convinced the Supreme Court to provide a liability shield to big corporations like Bayer, allowing them to poison us with impunity. I fought this decision tooth and nail in the courts and stood with the MAHA movement on the Supreme Court steps to oppose it.

This is not a liberal vs. conservative or right vs. left issue - it is a right or wrong issue. Now Congress must quickly act to reverse this liability shield.
