Jane Addams Senior Caucus is a grassroots organization led by seniors in the Chicago area - organizing on housing, healthcare, economic, and racial justice.
Hi, X! We’re back with some exciting news! Jane Addams Senior Caucus has recently completed a merger with @TenantEdNetwork , a Chicago-based organization fighting for the rights and dignity of Project Based Section 8 tenants.
150 households. One week to move their cars, or get towed.
Ms. Sangas organized:
-Dozens of emails sent and won
- Free resident street parking on the entire street
- 30 private parking spaces secured
An example of leadership and community care!
#TenantRights#Communitypower
Ms. Rose tells us in her own words how being part of the tenants association has improved her confidence and quality of life. Building community takes work and bravery. We are proud of her and all tenants that push through the unknown and the fear.
Blackstone Bicycle Works is hosting a BIKE GIVEAWAY this Saturday from 10am-1pm.
A NEW Bike & Helmet for:
- Youth in Grades 1-5
- Southside Chicago Residents
- and CPS Students
In addition to the giveway there will be safttey bike riding tips and food!
Another new appliance secured!
These material victories are essential to both the livelihood of our members and the strength of our fight. When residents spend less time chasing repairs, they have more capacity to organize around the larger building-wide issues we face together!
We are still fundraising for air quality testing at Fox Shore! Tenacious and resilient tenant leader Julie Frerichs set up a GoFund Me so that you can donate directly.
Thank you for standing with the Fox Shore Apartments community.

Ms. Brown's story is unfortunately one we see often, she had an apartment full of repair needs in multiple rooms.
She followed the steps we stand by: document, notify and escalate, leading to repairs in the bathroom, bedroom and kitchen; including a new refrigerator and stove!
Today we are celebrating the life of one of our members, Mr. Daryl. Originally skeptical of the work of the tenant association he became a member! As he was fighting for his health, he kept standing up for his neighbors. He will truly be missed. Rest in Power Mr. Daryl.
We are still raising money for air quality testing at Fox Shore, after the landlord went back on their promise.
This testing is CRITICAL as symptoms can take years to appear.
We demand that they take responsibility for the potential long term health impacts on their tenants.
Ms. F's landlord exposed her to asbestos, requiring everyone to temporarily relocate.
After first promising to test air quality, they are now refusing.
We are currently looking to raise $1,000 for this test to be done. Donate here: https://t.co/AB1LS2cclQ
🚨 Tenants Deserve Safety, Not Silence 📷On April 3rd, residents delivered a clear list of demands to management — after ongoing issues were ignored. These aren’t optional. They’re necessary. Watch the video for their demands!
Tomorrow is our last day to speak out against Trump's proposal to kick immigrant families out of HUD housing. Take action at https://t.co/c8av02dXkv to:
🏘️ Protect 80,000 immigrants' homes
👩👧 Keep families together
🌇Defend our federal housing programs
A landlord called Standard Communities is trying to buy Ellis Lakeview.
Tenants demand a signed guarantee of basic living standards:
✅ Routine maintenance
✅ Reliable trash pickup
✅ A plan for emergency relocation

Tenants return to Court on April 22nd and will not allow a deal to ends the Code Enforcement Case without guaranteeing basic protections: routine maintenance, trash collection, and emergency relocation if the water, hear or elevators shut down!
Building Commissioner Hopkins and then city attorney Steve Mckenzie LIED to tenants.
After promising to oppose a deal that shut out the Tenant Association, they flip flopped.
Tenants return to Court on April 22nd.

❌ Waukegan: Tenants lost hot water and onsite security after a similar sale. https://t.co/9ggZrwjGy8
❌ Aurora: Tenants faced asbestos exposure and two-month delays on basic repairs. https://t.co/XYe5W2mITT
❌ Chicago: Tenants were relocated to units without functioning showers.
Because of their cowardice, tenants have to just hope that the new landlord will follow through on their promises. But hope is not a strategy, other landlords promising big rehabs have routinely failed on their promises:
We are not done fighting, whether in the hallway, or in the courtroom. Five years of litigation and tenant actions, and still no Consent Decree that meets tenants’ basic need for emergency temporary relocation.
