Social media in Nigeria and a good part of Africa is the craziest on the Internet.
People are literally starving to d£ath because of economic hardship and school children languishing in kidnappers' dens. But guess what's always trending online there - betting, BB naija, football, celebrity gossip, olodo, sex tapes - just inessential discourse.
Meanwhile, people in other countries are using social media to discuss the things that actually affect their daily lives, like cost of living, health, heat waves, science, new technologies, education, and policies.
You can't help but wonder if this is just a mere coincidence.
We grew up watching who wants to be a millionaire, cowbell mathematics competition, spelling bee etc..
Now we’re stuck with BBN, peller and the likes and you can’t see the problem?
