🚨 Washington State... congratulations. You’ve officially out-stupided your own “Stupid Motorist Law.”
You’re handing out CDLs to people who fail the test ten times in two months,
then acting shocked when a bridge gets smacked ...and your big solution?
Blame the truckers.
You built the system.
You lowered the bar.
You flooded the road with unprepared drivers.
And now you want to play tough guy and write laws about “accountability”?
That’s like selling fireworks to toddlers and then crying about the noise.
Instead of fixing your broken licensing system, outdated signage, or lack of infrastructure investment, you slap a “Stupid Motorist” label on the very folks keeping your shelves stocked and your economy alive.
Maybe the next law should be called the “Stupid Legislator Act”
where every time your policies backfire, you get the fine.
Until then, Washington state, keep proving what happens when politics drives policy instead of logic.

There’s no driver shortage.
There’s a driver retention crisis.
And the ATA’s been selling this “shortage” fairy tale for decades to hide the churn that keeps big carriers rich and the propaganda partners happy.
2️⃣
Let’s talk facts:
- OOIDA says long-haul carriers average 90-100% turnover.
Over 400,000 new CDLs get issued every year.
- ATRI says total cost per mile = $2.26.
If this were a real shortage, pay would explode. It hasn’t.

If drivers were truly “vanishing,” we wouldn’t see trucking payrolls drop by 29,000 jobs in 2024 when freight softened.
That’s called a labor market correction, not a shortage.
4️⃣
The “shortage” story keeps wages low.
Because if you convince the world there aren’t enough drivers,
you can flood the pipeline with trainees instead of paying veterans their worth. Plus you can justify stupid ideas like recruiting aging out orphans rather than talking how to keep the drivers you already have.
5️⃣
It’s not about supply.
It’s about how we treat the supply.
No one wants to live 70 hours a week for 45 hours of pay.
6️⃣
Drivers aren’t quitting the road they’re quitting being lied to.
They’re quitting unpaid detention.
They’re quitting fake promises and “miles pay” that doesn’t match the logbook.
7️⃣
The fix is simple:
✅ Pay for all time.
✅ Fix detention.
✅ Give real home time.
✅ Treat recruiting and retention as the same damn problem.

Until trucking pays for time instead of turnover, the “shortage” myth will keep fueling the churn machine

America doesn’t have a driver shortage.
It has a respect shortage.
Fix that ...and the empty seats fill themselves.
