CSMRS Rock Mechanics Team visited the Kamala Hydroelectric Project (1720 MW), located in the Kamle and Kra Daadi districts of Arunachal Pradesh, from 12.01.2026 to 15.01.2026. The purpose of the visit was to select representative rock samples for conducting detailed geotechnical investigations at CSMRS, aimed at evaluating the design parameters and engineering properties of the rock. Rock samples were collected from the dam axis at both the left and right banks, as well as from the extended powerhouse drift of the project. The Kamala Hydroelectric Project is proposed to harness the hydropower potential of the Kamala River, which is a tributary of the Subansiri River and to address flood management challenges in Brahmaputra basin.

CSMRS Concrete Team conducted a Cut and Pull Out (CAPO) test on the shear key of the abutment foundation at the Song Dam Drinking Water Project in Uttarakhand from January 16 to 18, 2026. The objective of this testing was to evaluate the in-situ compressive strength of the hardened concrete, providing a reliable assessment of concrete quality under actual site conditions. The CAPO test is a semi-destructive method widely used to verify strength development without compromising the overall integrity of the structure.
The results of the CAPO testing contributed significantly to quality assurance and structural safety at the project site. By confirming that the concrete achieved the required strength parameters, the testing helped ensure the durability and long-term performance of the abutment foundation. Such evaluations are critical for major water infrastructure projects, as they minimize construction risks, enhance confidence in design assumptions, and support informed decision-making during subsequent stages of construction.
The Song Dam Drinking Water Project is a vital infrastructure initiative aimed at providing a sustainable and reliable drinking water supply to Dehradun and surrounding regions of Uttarakhand. In addition to improving water availability, the project is expected to enhance public health, reduce dependence on groundwater sources, and support regional socio-economic development. Ensuring high construction quality through rigorous testing, such as the CAPO test performed by CSMRS, directly contributes to the long-term safety, efficiency, and success of this essential project.
