Curious what it was like to live in Lodgepole and maintain a basic level of emergency access during a record-breaking winter? Let Robert from the roads crew tell you about it in his own words at https://t.co/41sHi5pSy1
UPDATE - This storm has had major impacts on the town of Three Rivers, just outside of Sequoia National Park. For that reason, we have postponed the public meeting previously planned for tomorrow to Wednesday, January 18 at 6 p.m. at the Three Rivers Memorial Building.
Join our superintendent, Clay Jordan, and Savannah Boiano, Executive Director of @SeqParksCon, for a free virtual talk and Q&A this evening at 6pm PST! Register here: https://t.co/nnNhvCms0n
Is it poppy time already?! A few areas in the foothills have burst into blossom (and lots of fiddlenecks are out as well, painting whole hillsides yellow)!
Is there still snow in the parks? It depends where you go. There has been no new snow since December, but in shady and less traveled spots, plenty of snow remains, although it is very icy and crusty. Snowy slopes have logs and debris poking through and may be hazardous for play.
It sure is good to see the Giant Forest!
The road to Giant Forest will open tomorrow, 1/28 at 8 am, and remain open throughout Monday 1/31 at sunset barring any unforseen changes in weather or road conditions. For current roads info, call 559 565 3341, then dial 1, 1.
The Giant Forest will be OPEN to public access this weekend, Saturday 1/22 - Monday 1/24. We hope to be able to provide some access to the area tomorrow as well, depending on what our crews accomplish today. We will post an update tomorrow morning! 📷Janet Tangney
Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park will unfortunately need to remain closed again this weekend.
Road crews have been navigating new challenges this winter after the KNP Complex fire.
Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park is expected to remain closed at least through Saturday. Our team will meet this evening to track clearing progress and see if it may be possible to open at least a portion of Giant Forest on Sunday or Monday.
A little #MomentOfZen among gentle flurries in the foothills of Sequoia this morning. As winter settles in, the hills feel ready to hibernate, despite the evidence of fire that raged here not long ago.
To say there has been a lot of snow in the #Sierra this month is an understatement. 51 year record has been broken at the Central Sierra Snow Lab (near Donner Summit), and we still have more snow on the way! #CAwx#CAwater
UPDATE - Due to continued challenges with clearing the Generals Highway, the Giant Forest will NOT open tomorrow, Saturday December 18. We are still assessing whether it will be possible to open this area on Sunday and/or Monday and will make further announcements.
Join us at 6:00 p.m. PST tonight for a talk with @SequoiaKingsNPS Superintendent Clay Jordan and SPC Director Savannah Boiano. Public Q&A session to follow. Learn more about SPC-NPS joint projects, the #knpcomplex, and more. https://t.co/wOfVPlxzfl
