@amw90s @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 I am really glad you wrote about your profession, rather than being a parent (yes, I wrote about being a parent), but I think this shows a great deal more about what we can do as individuals outside of our immediate families to give support/resources to those (1)
@lilac_rudolph @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 yes, exactly!! I hope that more parents in the future have similar ideals and will learn to display positivity toward all people so that oppression (hopefully) goes away one day
@psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 Our caregivers are our primary source of info about the world from the minute we enter it. When I become a mother, I plan on using positive-talk and openly discussing such issues and oppressed groups who should not be judged and demonstrate approval of all ppl. (3)
@psyc220 #CD7 one of my "big" goals in life is to become a mother. I think parents typically reinforce systems of oppression by displaying their beliefs which their children learn by modeling after them. Kids are very susceptible to their parents' values, and sometimes... (1)
@psyc220 @psyc220 #CD7 it can be challenging to change these learned ideals. If a parent displays racism, sexism, etc. through their words or actions, the child is more likely to model these words/behaviors, too, which demonstrates the 1st socialization level... (2)
@KyleeWig220 @psyc220 #CD6 @psyc220 thank you for bringing this topic to light. I feel that when it comes to intersectionality, people don't realize how impactful things can be on mental health. I wish that it was easier to acquire mental health resources, too. Especially in this day and age.
@egglestonsk23 @psyc220 #CD6 Thank you for sharing her story. I hadn't heard about her before, but I'm glad I have now. I feel like anyone who has more than one identity could be able to relate to her to an extent and it gives a sort of comfort that is greatly appreciated.
@psyc220 #CD6 there is nothing new about the mention of gender intersection with SES. In this article, it states that the median salary for men is approx 18% higher than median salary for women (sample) accounting for women's annual earnings being only 82.3% of men's.
@psyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 at this point in time, why is this wage gap still a thing? We all have the same rights and should be treated and PAID as such!!! Other demographic characteristics such as race and sexual orientation also contribute to this gap.
@SarahCaufield @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 I actually have noticed this too! it is very inconvenient as many blind individuals rely on access to these messages in order to complete daily tasks. It puts them at a disadvantage for success to not have this access
@Dakotapsyc220 @psyc220 #CD5a @psyc220 yes!!! I think this is absolutely ridiculous. There should be more accessibility to ramps and convenient transportation for those with disabilities because situations like this create uncomfortable issues
@mylindler @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 I think this image was so important to use. The quote is extremely inappropriate and it belittles the negative implications on one's life if they do deal with disabilities. While is important to have a positive outlook, it doesn't take away from their struggles
@janavi_raja @psyc220 #CD5b @psyc220 this was a great example to discuss the negative implications of inspirational porn. It is almost back-handed positivity when using images like this because, as you said, it objectifies and separates those with disabilities.
@psyc220 #CD5b the use of inspiration porn that includes individuals with disabilities can honestly be seen as fairly offensive, rather than helpful. I feel that to an extent, it is used to inspire more people without disabilities than with, and the wording seems poor.
@psyc220 #CD5a access to easier transportation for those with disabilities needs to be much more visible and accessible in the university. On every map of campus, we can see where vending machines are. However, it does not display where elevators or ramps are located
@maddie_leckert @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 I think it is so important that you mentioned racial minorities in your response. As we saw in lecture, many well-known figures of feminism tended to be white women, but this issue does not only apply to them, it applies to us all!!
@macywagoner10 @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 I love that you added in real-life examples to further demonstrate your knowledge on this topic even more. Hopefully, as you mentioned, we will ALL be able to identify as we please and be treated as equals!!!
@psyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 men who experience toxic masculinity or women who are expected to maintain more "lady-like" gender roles can break away and express themselves without society dictating proper ways to behave/present oneself.
@psyc220 #CD4 Feminism's role in ending oppression goes beyond expectations of women or their specific gender roles. It's become far more intersectional in advocating for the equality of all genders, sexual orientations, and breaking away from socially constructed stigmas. (1/2)
