For former New York firefighter Rob Serra, hockey gave him back his sense of normalcy after the attacks on 9/11.
We sat down with Rob in 2020 to talk about his experience that day and what hockey means to him.

This memory might have been lost forever had my algorithm not just put sled hockey and Brendan Fraser in my feed. Figured Iโd put it here for my kids to find.
In the early 2000s a few guys from the @FDNYhockeyteam and I played in a celebrity sled hockey tournament @ChelseaPiersNYC. At one point Brendan Fraser and I fake dropped the gloves and wrestled each other out of our sleds. The entire time he yelled at me in a pirate voice. ๐ดโโ ๏ธ๐
@YESNetwork We pay a premium to direct tv to get your network. I understand youโre trying to convince people to get your app but maybe you should consider that we already paid to watch this game. I didnt pay to watch the game on a split screen with two guys in recliners. Turning it off
Dear @YESNetwork no offense to these guys but this ainโt it. Itโs bad enough that we already need 5 different apps to watch @yankees games. Now you wonโt let those who already pay a premium for direct TV watch a proper broadcast? When is it enough?
Yes three sports teams losing is definitely the same as my family watching my FIL die on live tv with 3k other people. And losing the the 3k + that have died since to 9/11 related illnesses, like Suhail.
The only reason Iโm bothering to post this is I literally just said to a congressional staffer that the reason 9/11 first responders and survivors are still fighting for healthcare is because 9/11 has become a meme. These jokes are lazy. And if u watch a stand up special youโll/
Friends - See you Monday DC! We are far from done. We won this week, and no celebrating. Now back to legislation. You either support H.R.1410 & S.739 ($3 billion for the WTCHP) or you don't. Either way we will get this done. We don't lose! #DCIsMyPlayGround#YouWorkForUs
Thanks to @UBSArena for helping make the 51st annual @FDNY v @NYPDnews charity hockey game a success. To the fans that turned out and to those that watched on @LISportsNetwork we canโt thank you enough. Itโs our honor to play for you and to serve the greatest city in the world!๐ฅ
