@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Financially it is exactly either/or. No city can afford to do all three in 10-15 years, even with the best political will, never mind Motor City IE.
@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway In a perfect world we do. But when there is one small pot of money, light rail will take it all for a generation. So in 10 years maybe we have one line serving a fraction of the population and caught in city traffic. Instead of a world class comprehensive bus/bike based system
@BrianLeddin @paulinegalway I canโt agree. Light rail is 10 years away. Ppl need solutions now. Paris and other cities have shown how a radical cycle infra can be delivered in months. A radical bus network in a 2-3 years.
@willix2025 @BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Of course busses are, they work all over Europe. Galway is not a medium city, it is small. Medieval town at its core, unsuited for cars. Cars should be banned from most streets, ped/cycles prioritised and busses only. No Irish city has even tried a proper bus network.
@willix2025 @BrianLeddin @paulinegalway Luas cross city completely degraded cycling in Dublin.
And busses are enough. We just refuse to create proper bus networks. As said no city of comparable size has created a tram system for good reasons. Every regional city in Sweden lives with excellent busses and no traffic.
@Archidub1 Went on my first tour of it last weekend. What a let down. No chapel royal or recods tower. Place is full of parked private cars (gardai no doubt).
@cianginty@DublinAirport@TFIupdates No stop. We are too busy talking about a metro to worry about millions of bus passengers for the past 60 years and future 60.
