Finland has strong defence capabilities and strong partners and allies. Finland is part of a broader community.

We never want to find ourselves in an armed conflict with Russia or any other country, but we must be prepared for a range of threats. Deterrence is built to ensure that those threats never materialise.

Living with uncertainty is difficult, but necessary. There are more shades of grey in the world today.

Today I addressed the Atlantic Council of Finland in Helsinki. Jaakko Iloniemi, Honorary Chair of the Council, is one of Finland’s most influential foreign policy thinkers. Two things stand out in his approach: a realistic assessment of the situation and active engagement. This is a sound guiding principle for Finland as well.

I had an extensive discussion with my colleague @HakanFidan on a range of issues.

Good neighbourly relations and advancing the Cyprus settlement process are of high importance. I raised yesterday’s Libyan vote on a maritime MoU with Türkiye and stressed that it infringes upon the sovereign rights of third states.

On Russia’s dangerous Black Sea escalation, I emphasised the need to step up the pressure on Moscow to end the war. The EU and Türkiye both support a Black Sea freedom of navigation arrangement.

We also addressed developments in the South Caucasus and across the Middle East. Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and Yemen are textbook terror tactics and must end. In the Strait of Hormuz, Iran is making shipping dangerous and expensive. Freedom of navigation must be restored without tolls or fees.

These four Ukrainian Warriors from the 65th Mechanized Brigade spent 320 days defending a frontline position in the Orikhiv sector of Zaporizhzhia region.

Now, they've finally made it back from the front line.

To reach the evacuation point, the Defenders covered about 18 km on foot over three days, through rain and fog, under the constant threat of Russian drones. They were then transported by armored vehicle to a location where their brothers-in-arms and medics were waiting.

The group was led by Ukrainian Defender Vitalii, call sign "Cheburashka." All four made it out alive.

Previous rotation attempts had been thwarted by Russian drones and artillery. According to the brigade, one replacement group was killed before reaching the position, while others were wounded and had to turn back.

BIG | 🇺🇦🇳🇴‼️ Ukraine and Norway plan to test the new FREYJA missile defense system before the end of 2026, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced following talks with Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik and executives from Kongsberg, the company behind NASAMS.

Zelensky said the two countries have already achieved initial results in developing components of the European air defense system and identified areas where work needs to move faster. Ukraine also expects additional Norwegian defense assistance packages in November. The talks covered another critical issue for Kyiv, developing new satellite communication capabilities for the Ukrainian Armed Forces with support from international partners.

🔥 Ukraine is working to reduce two major vulnerabilities at once. Russia’s continued missile attacks have exposed the need for more reliable air defenses, while recent uncertainty surrounding satellite services has shown the risks of depending too heavily on individual providers. Developing FREYJA alongside alternative military communications would give Kyiv greater control over capabilities essential to its defense. Norway’s involvement, particularly through Kongsberg’s experience with NASAMS, makes this cooperation strategically significant.

Today in Oslo, I met with King Haakon VIII of Norway. I thank His Majesty, the Government, and all the Norwegian people for their support for Ukraine.

We discussed the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. We must bring every Ukrainian child home. We discussed what steps we can take to make this happen. We are also doing everything we can to help our people in Oleshky, which is under Russian occupation. The situation there is simply horrific.
