Brian De Palma initially sent Bob Hoskins the script of "The Untouchables" (1987) with the intention to cast him for the part of Al Capone. When Hoskins met De Palma at an Hotel, De Palma said, "really I want Robert De Niro to play him". Hoskins thought, "well great what am I doing here?". De Palma then said "but if he don’t do it, would you sort of step in?" and Hoskins said "yeah of course I will."
Months went by with no communication between the two. Hoskins used to check the papers to see what project De Niro was signing up for. Over time, he forgot everything about it. One day, he received a cheque for £20,000 in the mail with a note saying, "Thanks for you time Bob, love Brian."
Immediately Hoskins phoned De Palma and said, "Brian, if you’ve ever got any films you don’t want me in son, you just give me a call!”

P.S: On this day, 39 years ago, "The Untouchables" (1987) premiered in New York City, USA.
Have you ever noticed that these model minority types always try to signal their alignment with white supremacy by shitting on Black people who helped their immigrant families come to the USA?
Back then…
The average personal tax rate was 5.5%
The average corporate tax rate was 42%
And the tax rate for the ultra wealthy was 91%.
That’s what they stole from us.
@DylanIsADragon If it was 2021..sure. But, going in to his age 33 season after missing 9-10 games at 32, on top of having already been oft-injured..not exactly scaring the league. He's another old, brittle piece added to a team whose already too reliant on a core of old, often injured players.
Terry Taylor just turned heel here in May 1987 and he decided to confront young rookie Steve "Do It To It" Cox in his interview here
Taylor was so great at being a condescending jerk it was a revelation because he was always such a babyface
Mike Starr - The dependable character actor. Nearly 50 years in the business. His commanding presence and deep voice bring real authority to every role. Shoutout to a true working actor.
This shit is funny because nobody sane or who wasn’t pandering ever said George Floyd was a hero.. we just said he shouldn’t have been murdered by a cop who kneeled on his neck for 9 minutes.
No Mike…Obama getting elected didn’t create racism or division. It exposed how much racism was already here. A Black man becoming president made a lot of white people uncomfortable because it challenged the idea of who they believed should hold power in this country.
Instead of addressing racism, white people blamed Obama for the reaction racist people had to his success. He’s not responsible for the hate. Racists are. The division came from white people refusing to accept equality, progress, and the fact that America was changing.
City of Crime (1987). Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd did this soundtrack single for their 1987 movie Dragnet. Paula Abdul managed the choreography. It never troubled the charts, but it's pretty fun.
@electionsjoe There was never a law to stop presidents from doing stuff like this. It’s just that nobody ever did because they actually had respect for their office and the country in general
