This day in 1944, Adolf Hitler ordered the destruction of Paris. However, General von Choltitz disobeyed Hitler's order and surrendered the city days later.
Choltitz was kept prisoner until 1947, and published his book Brennt Paris? ("Is Paris Burning?") in 1950. #WW2
