This country made a promise to every person who put on a uniform. Right now, Washington is breaking it.

Montana has one of the highest veteran suicide rates in the nation. VA Montana lost nearly 9% of its workforce. Veterans are waiting up to six months to see a psychiatrist. Our veterans are people, not budget lines to be slashed.

I served. I know what the people next to me were willing to give. And I know what we owe them when they come home.

As Montana's Independent voice in the U.S. Senate, I'll fight to:
→ Restore and fully fund VA healthcare across rural Montana
→ Expand veteran mental health services and end the staffing cuts
→ Bring mobile VA clinics to the communities that need them most
→ Protect the GI Bill and open real pathways into civilian careers
→ Hold Washington accountable — no waiting lists, no political games

I had the honor of attending Helena's Memorial Day ceremony, where I met with Gold and Green Star families who have given the ultimate sacrifice and deserve our deepest gratitude and our strongest commitment to action. We had honest conversations about expanding mental health services for veterans in Montana, because honoring the fallen also means taking care of those who came home.

I also had the privilege of sitting down for lunch with members of the Helena Area Veterans. Good people, strong community, and a reminder of why this work matters.

Then it was on to Great Falls for their Memorial Day ceremony. I was moved by the turnout. It's no secret that Montana is one of the most patriotic states in the nation. Our sons and daughters enlist at rates that put most states to shame, and Great Falls is a shining example of that tradition.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed me into your communities this weekend. I don't take that trust lightly, and you inspire me to continue to serve this great state.

There's a word for what's happening to the VA right now: Betrayal.

Staffing gutted. Wait times climbing. Veterans calling to schedule mental health appointments and waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

And in DC, the same politicians who wrap themselves in the US flag on Memorial Day are signing off on cuts that leave the people who actually bled for that flag without a doctor, without a counselor, without a call back.

Montana has more veterans per capita than almost any state in the country. They aren't statistics, they're our neighbors, friends, and family. They're the people I've shaken hands with at VFW halls across this state. And they deserve better than a government that treats their sacrifice like a line item to trim.

A compact was made when they raised their right hand and swore an oath to our Constitution. We owe them.

These cuts don't get reversed because politicians feel guilty. They get reversed because the people get loud. As your Senator, I'll be the loudest in demanding care for our veterans.

I'm tired of politicians telling us America is in decline. That's not the country I served for.

In 1957, the Soviets launched Sputnik. Americans heard that beep on their radios and felt real fear. But instead of pointing fingers, a Republican president and a Democratic Congress came together, and that bet paid off, building 75 years of technological and economic dominance.

Today's leaders aren't making those investments. And if our kids enter the military, they won't have the same technological edge I took for granted as a second lieutenant 25 years ago. That's a moral failure.

Montana deserves a Senator that doesn't take America's decline for an answer.

There's nowhere quite like the Bucking Horse Sale. 75 years of Montana grit, tradition, and community, and this year, I got to be part of it.

Got to meet and talk with so many incredible folks in Miles City this weekend. And what they told me matters.

Ranchers worried about what the Big Beautiful Bill will do to rural healthcare because when the nearest hospital is already 60 miles away, cutting Medicaid isn't an abstraction. It's life and death.

Farmers watching their input costs climb with every new tariff announcement, doing the math on whether next season will make ends meet.

And just about everyone is exhausted by a political system that keeps picking fights instead of solving problems.

Montana deserves a Senator that can cut through the partisan noise and deliver real solutions to real problems.
