@fueki_lee It's quite sad.
I had always believed that self-preservation instincts trump every other feelings for human beings, but apparently, several religious/moral/social factors can override these instincts.
If not, why won't anyone want to save their own life by all means ?

Gender based violence (GBV)
The Bible study in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has been looking at marriage and Christian lifestyle since the beginning of this year 2026.
The topics around this period and the next few weeks are focused on GBV and the impact on the victims.
The topic is a very sensitive one and a very sad one at that, looking at how spouses harm their partners in marriage. A union of love becoming a threat to life. Two people who had promised to love each other turning around to cause bodily, emotional and psychological harm to one another.
A very sad reality.
Earlier this year while having some discussions around this topic, I decided to search for some data regarding this and the results shocked me to my bone marrow.
Apparently, about 3 people lose their lives every month in Nigeria at the hands of their partners. That's about 36 people every year that get killed by their spouses.
I then begin to wonder what could have transpired before these unfortunate acts happened. There must have been a significant level of abuse ongoing within such marriages. The victims would have probably remained in the marriage, with the hope that things will get better until they unfortunately lose their lives. Some of them could have left at some point or contemplate leaving, but people advise them to stay and endure.
This is a clarion call to everyone going through any form of abuse.
Speak up!
Run!
Save your lives!
Preserve your mental health!
There is no marriage worth losing your life over. The vows of "till death do us part" does not mean that the death has to come from your partner.
Speak up!
Run!
Save your lives!
Preserve your mental health!
@UcheMaryOkoli I saw a post that Catholics are not Christians. I initially ignored it as I rarely engage in such discussions.
Eventually, I enlightened him on how narrow-minded the statement was, simply because he didn't believe in some Catholic church's practice.
Though I'm not a Catholic.
@Big_Bestmann I wonder how tortoise got involved in those tales in the first place.
There are so many animals out there. Why the particular attention on tortoise in almost all the folktales and depicted as cunny ?
@SirEvanAmato 2. For the love of God is broader
than the measure of our mind,
and the heart of the Eternal
is most wonderfully kind.
But we make his love too narrow
by false limits of our own;
and we magnify his strictness
with a zeal he would not own.
@SirEvanAmato Reminds me of one my favorite hymns.
There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea; there's a kindness in his justice which is more than liberty.
There's no place where earth's sorrows are more felt than up in heaven;
Verse 2 is even more profound..
