Despite workers following them around to point out what was not theirs to take, they stole booksellers’ personal belongings, and merchandise from SWARM, which was intended to fundraise for the SW community.

- and causing severe damage to the unit. These people were not a part of the community surrounding the bookshop and clearly did not know what belonged to the CIC.

Marin and her hired help were fully aware of the occupation.
They set to work packing away all the stock, the central demand of our occupation. They ripped shelving off the walls, drilled through and replaced the three locks to the unit, violating their contract with Pelican Col.

At 4am, Tues 2 July, the director Marin Scarlett and a team of around 20 people illegally drilled into the newly occupied The People’s Letters bookshop (formerly The Scarlett Letters) to clear it out. Three workers were sleeping downstairs, including one who is 27 weeks pregnant.

We are disgusted by this behaviour - a CIC should exist to benefit the community it serves.

The director of The Scarlett Letters has chosen to announce the shop will be closing - meaning all ten of the workers, one of whom has a baby on the way, are losing their jobs.
